In a way, its very important. But there's not much to be gleaned from just the launch angle of one ball.

this is fascinating, thank you. particularly because back in the day i had to think about swinging down during my swing because i naturally would uppercut/pop eeeeeverything up when i let it fly

 

the fly ball / launch angle revolution right now is kind of at a similar point to where defensive shifting was in the beginning. it's very important, but we don't know granularly how beneficial it is and how many players are actually seeing a boost.

 

players/coaches are in a tough spot because little league is definitely a time when hitting the ball on the ground probably produces the best results. making kids not only get to the ball but then make a throw is a lot to ask. as you rise up, though, you have to hit the ball in the air more to succeed and it's gotta be tough to relearn your entire hitting approach

 

thoughts on swinging away during a shift vs bunting for the hit every damn time until they stop shifting on you? some of these shifts are so extreme that a swinging or slap bunt could get a guy a double
