I certainly hope to see him stay with the Mets in an off the field role when he hangs it up, but I definitely don't see him giving up anytime soon. You're absolutely right about his passion, its why he's so reluctant to walk away. If this year is anything like the last for him, unfortunately I think the Mets might start to try and force his hand little

 

I mean, he isn't gonna walk away while getting paid for not playing lol I'm sure he's a good guy but that's silly, he's running this race until that contract is over. I'm sure the Mets will offer him something in the front office if he wants it.

Couldn't the Mets just come to a settlement with him though if they wanted him off the books that badly?

 

The thing is that Wright still really wants to come back, and if the Mets tried to force him out, half (if not more) of the fanbase would revolt

 

Andddd I doubt the wilpons would pay the rest of the deal upfront knowing the way they operate

How can you know they have no competition? Was there a report I missed? Couldn't that just be the sox trying to pressure him into signing it?
