Gonna be honest, it must be really not fun to be a Pirates fan. Team was awful for two decades, became relevant for like... 3 seasons? And now they’re trading away the best pitcher they have. Ok.

I'm sure they are fine with the Steelers and Penguins.

Yup. I actually agree with this.

The royal fan is happy since they got a solid half decade of winning ball and a championship

Pitt got wild card gamed every single year :(

Do I actually have to specify “Pittsburgh baseball fans”? I mean, considering there are plenty of fans that only care about one sport specifically. I am a Detroit fan, but I only really care about 2 of the 4 Detroit sports. There are fans in every city like that.

    What a post.

I think you took my post differently than intended. Carry on.

  9. Really revealing that the MLB views any kind of adversarial interview as a violation of the relationship the league is supposed to have with the press.

I don't get why he's going after Manfred so hard in this? Like, if Marlins ownership wants to have a firesale, why the fuck does it matter?

  11. because he's a Miami diehard and cares about his city and community

  12. Because part of the reason they're having the firesale is because they don't have the money to run the team like a real team. They being the ownership group Manfred approved

when old management cries for the public to get them a brand new arena and they do.

I'd be super angry if that management sold to a new group only for them to slash the payrolls because of money issues and proceed to do constant fire sales.

Were there suitors that could afford to keep the current payroll? Serious question. Starting in debt and having a shitty TV contract doesn’t help matters. I’m starting to question if anyone would have come in and wouldn’t be doing the same.

  15. Im under the impression there were other richer candidates yes but idk for sure. Team is definitely in a bad place anyway

I can't post any links right now because work but I do believe there were other suitors with more money.

I'll be sure to find them when I get off.

I feel like the Marlins have had a dumpster fire sale every 5 years or so during their entire existence. Why would this trend change? Is the reason people are outraged this go around because they play in a new stadium?? Hasn't the attendance still been relatively poor even with the new facility?

  18. They had an all-star trio in the outfield. All three guys entering their prime. One is the MVP. Yelich is on one of the best contracts in the league. The team was already one of the lower payrolls in the league. They’re in a brand new stadium. They are in no position to go through a rebuild. Maybe retooling but they had an offensive core that would’ve been good for a long time. Loria and the league fleeced Jeter’s group. All while knowing they could barely afford the franchise, and couldn’t afford to keep the franchise at a competitive level despite having young talent.

it's absolutely tragic and maybe a bit off to say, but the death of Jose Fernandez really set this team back. he was supposed to be their 1 true ace and a key piece to build around.

I for one, have no problem with them trading Stanton but i do have a problem with them giving him a bonkers contract..and then only a few years later say 'nevermind we cant afford that shit' and then trade him for nothing more than financial relief. That's absolutely NOT ACCEPTABLE (if you're a fan). I would much much much rather have them do the traditional thing of just trading him for prospects or something. But nope.

and i agree its a shame they've decided to give up on the Ozuna, Yelich, Stanton outfield (and traded none of them for pitching)

  20. They wouldn’t pay Fernandez. If they did he’d be traded soon after.

no but i honestly believe they wouldve been much more competitive the past few years.

  22. There was no reason to this this time. Their payroll was barely over 100 mil. The idea that a team with a payroll at that level would *ever* need to break everything down is bad for the league. They have massive debt and make no money yes but the hope is always that a new owner can inject cash and prevent things like this. It wouldn't have taken that much cash either, surely less than the 250m in additional investment they're still seeking. At this point they're not even a baseball team.

While we're talking about the Marlins, let's take a moment to acknowledge that Christian Yelich has a pretty hot mom.

These post hoc statements are to be taken with a grain of salt. Plus, why am I to believe he'd keep, and possibly raise payroll, when he wasn't willing to match the other group's offer? Seems like he's not too inclined to lose much money either.
