Just read Myers might get 7x7 rather than the 8x8 I thought he would lol

 

impressive how Wilson got Karlsson done before 7/1. surprised EK didn't at least want to hear what other team's offers would have been for the first time in his career. Wilson seems to do this early signing magic with almost everyone who is in San Jose, it's very impressive.

but, the last 4 years of that contract might be a total albatross.

however, i would rather my GM act / do what Wilson does vs whatever it is that Ottawa is doing (granted i know these are the two extremes, but if i had to choose one of those two, it's definitely Wilson and is too high / too long contracts than not paying any of your stars).

 

With that offer on the table, there simply was no need whatsoever for EK to go to free agency. Other teams could only have offered 7 years instead of 8, so they would have had to offer north of 13m per year to match the Sharks contract total, which is pretty unlikely.

But also Winnipeg apparently wasn't allowing teams, NYR included, to negotiate with Trouba beforehand, so that obviously severely limits his value, which was already limited by his alleged unwillingness to sign too far from Michigan anyway.

Perfect storm for NYR, basically. Assholes.
