For fans, yes, the NFL contracts are best because fans are primarily team focused and want teams to be able to spend like crazy and walk it back when needed.

For players, NFL Contracts are booooooooooooooty.

 

As a human being, NFL contracts and the NFLPA is garbage.

As an NFL fan, I love it because it does help parity quite a bit.



And yes, NFL fans are not human beings.

 

I'd like to see adjustments to the rookie contracts given but given that NFL has the shortest average length of career for players it's tough to find a scenario where someone isn't hurt by a new structure

 

I think having a rookie scale and and a salary cap is worse for the players than the non-guaranteed nature of the contracts.

I’m all for not overpaying players for performance that isn’t there, but when your system basically banks on players “making up” for lost earnings in their early years, it sucks to have a system where players lose any surplus they get out of their deals because they’re cut, while they’re stuck in their deal if it provides a ton of value for the team

 

Yeah the rookie scale and the franchise tag are the two big issues for me with NFL contracts

Gtd/Non-Gtd is all fine outside of that

 

I think the best thing for rookies would be to expand to the same incentives as veterans. They're a little limited in that area for now, but it can help with those 5th and 6th rounders who exceed their draft value and become superstars quickly.

Seriously. I don't want to see a situation like JaMarcus Russell or Sam Bradford again.

 

Yeah, honestly the franchise tag wouldn’t even bother me that much if it weren’t tacked onto the end of 4-5 guaranteed years with your team at presumably lower than market value. Like if this exact same franchise tag system existed after year 2 of a player’s career, I think I’d be ok with it

 

I think that's a very good very quick fix haha. Like...players can be tagged after second contract forward, but not after rookie contract. Problem solved!

This is definitely the right move. They're also switching from navy to yellow facemasks, like they'd been using with their Color Rush set.

 

I agree the top pick in the draft shouldn't be a top 5-10 paid player right away, but there shouldn't be a locked in rookie scale for the draft based on position. Andrew Luck deserved to be paid way more as a rookie than Eric Fisher, for example
