Super slow day at work again so I looked up the main Cowboys quarterbacks and their respective stats while they were starting and pulled their rankings in Cmp%, TD%, Int%, Passer Rating, Y/A, AY/A, and ANY/A and averaged them and got these:

    Player - Avg

    Staubach - 2.43
    Romo - 4.71
    Meredith - 7.33
    Aikman - 9.71
    White - 10.00
    Prescott - 10.14

Staubach was a bad ass, Romo is so underrated, and while Aikman doesn't have the best stats ever he's much better than people give him credit for. People say he shouldn't even be in the Hall of Fame, smh

    The rivalry is back on

Using that metric you pulled alone, Aikman being between the 9th and 10th best QB at any given time while he was playing doesn’t scream HOF to me

And I agree that Romo is painfully underrated

Right, that's why stats don't really tell the whole story. A big reason it's that "low" is that he has a pretty low TD% but that's positively more because we were a running team with one of the GOAT running backs punching in rushing TDs all the time. If even half of those were turned into passing touchdowns, then he'd be ranked even higher.

I did it for the Packers too and got:

    Rodgers - 2.29
    Starr - 7.14
    Favre - 18.43

The main thing dragging Favre down is that he was ranked 36th in Int%, but he was also below average in all the rate stats as well.

    Manning - 4.43
    Unitas - 6.86
    Luck - 12.00

There's always going to be outliers when looking at only stats with no context. I think Luck is better than 12th best over the last 7 years, but statistically he's not. I'd say closer to 8th or 9th.

He easily is a Hall of Famer, both in reality and in comparison to what other achieved while he was playing.

Aikman is basically the exact same as Eli. They have pretty comparable stats (mediocre to below average) but they're absolutely in the HOF based on playoffs/rings

Pretty much every stat that Aikman has that people point as as being mediocre or bad is directly because of Emmitt Smith "vulturing" yards and touchdowns from Aikman. Aikman would get us inside the 10 and then hand off to Smith 3 times in a row and he'd get all the TDs which directly took away from his passer rating and Smith was the just about the best at draining the clock chewing away yards.

I mean Troy Aikman is a hall of famer because he's already in it

Looking at the four years where he won three Super Bowls, here are Aikman's rankings:

    Cmp% - 2nd
    TD% - 14th
    Int% - 4th
    Passer Rating - 2nd
    Y/A - 2nd
    AY/A - 2nd
    ANY/A - 2nd
    Average - 3.86

The only quarterback that was objectively ahead of him was Steve Young and he's considered one of the most talented quarterback to ever play. And if you see 6 out of 7 efficiency/rate stats are top 4 and the other is 14th, it's pretty clear what the outlier is and again, that's due to Emmitt.

Aikman 100% deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, both due to skill and achievements.

Lol, Eli will be in the Hall of Fame one day and deserves it as well.

Your average rank score isn’t objective. It’s a completely arbitrary measurement.

Winning three Super Bowls is nearly unprecendented for one quarterback to do; there's only 3 who have more than him. So I looked at where he ranked statistically during those years. It's relevant when discussing whether he was good enough to make the Hall of Fame.

It’s completely fine if that’s the way you want to look at it, but it’s still not objective. That’s all I’m saying.

What is objective to you? You haven't posted any backup or reasoning for your opinion, so...

Man, Steve Young really was just incredible. This dude would be leading the league with a 100+ passer rating when league average was like lower to mid 80s, haha

Plus, he was a great runner, too! Man, 49ers were super lucky to get Montana and then him.

Well, there's nothing objective about this. It's all completely subjective. But I look at this and see a really good QB, but not a top 5 QB among his peers. For his run of three SBs, his attempts drop drastically. He isn't asked to do much since Jimmy Johnson blew up the league and formed a god squad. Which is a fine football strategy, but it inflates all these rate measurements. If you broaden the scope to his prime(?) years, he drops out of the top 5.

From 1990-1997, the prime years of Aikman(?), minimum of 48 games started within that span:

    Aikman:
    Attempts - 5th
    Cmp% - 2nd
    TDs - 11th
    TD% - 24th
    Int% - 7th
    Passer Rating - 5th
    Y/A - 6th
    Y/G - 11th
    AY/A - 7th
    ANY/A - 6th

From 1992-1995, minimum of 48 games started within that span (14 players):

    Aikman:
    Attempts - 10th
    Cmp% - 2nd
    TDs - 8th
    TD% - 8th
    Int% - 2nd
    Passer Rating - 2nd
    Y/A - 2nd
    Y/G - 9th
    AY/A - 2nd
    ANY/A - 2nd

I also think Young was a better QB than Montana. Haha All my fellow 49er fans hate me for that opinion, too.

Thanks for posting all of this, and yes, it's all subjective seeing as he is objectively in the Hall of Fame now anyways, haha

And we can pull and post stats and rankings all day long, but going off of my post earlier and then looking at these numbers, he was about a top ten QB for the majority of his career, some years top five, and then won more Super Bowls than all but 3 other quarterbacks. Combine success with stats, as well as being consistent and raising his game in the playoffs specifically, I don't know how he couldn't make the Hall of Fame. Like, is there any other quarterback that has this amount on his resume that isn't already in the Hall of Fame? I'd say no, because what he did is practically unprecedented.

I haven't looked at their stuff versus each other, but I don't think it would be difficult to agree with you there.
