The Browns could've also picked Deshaun Watson and then the trade would've been Wentz for Watson and a ton of picks

 

The Browns are in a better position than the Eagles now anyway so who cares

 

I just disagree haha. A trade for picks, without a good plan for what to do with those picks, is a bad trade automatically. Whether acquiring picks in a draft is good or not hinges on the value of players you drafted .

 

If I sell an item that's worth $10 to someone for $1,000 dollars, then I made out like a bandit regardless of what I spent that $990 on.

 

They didnt trade for corey coleman, they traded for a pick. that is objectively what a trade is.

 

It was a “potentially” good trade.

You can’t judge a trade until you see how the player performed. That’s every trade. Like the Raiders trade for Antonio Brown looks great right now but if he has a bad attitude and does poorly like Raiders Randy Moss did then we will all say it was a bad move

Same with draft picks. You can postulate / estimate their value but you don’t know for sure until you see them pan out.

 

This is literally false. The trade is what the trade is! They traded for picks. That was the end of the trade. Trade has ended. Its Wentz for picks. Thats the end of it haha

 

If I trade Telvin Smith for a first round pick, that sounds like you’re exceeding his value.. but if that first round pick sucks then I miss Telvin and hate the trade haha

 

That's hating the result of what you did with the trade, not with the trade itself.

 

But thats still great value for telvin.

We all get what each other think but it's just an agree to disagree situation, I guess.

 

You can’t judge any trade right after it’s happened. I think this mindset is facetious and there is no practical way to apply that logic so why divide the two things? Trading Wentz for a lot f picks really didn’t matter so why are we still insisting on retroactively praising it in theory without the actual context that followed?

Mainly, I don’t think the trade is suddenly worse for the Eagles if Cleveland stays put at 8 and takes Jack Conklin, who is a useful RT, instead of getting an effectively worthless WR with that pick. Or if they trade down to 15, but then “reach” to take Michael Thomas, who ends up being just as good as he is now. The Eagles still win because they got their franchise QB who has since panned out.
