Yeah, its the Steelers and Leveon Bell...as a fan I want to pay him because he's fun to watch and gets shit done. But we just saved $14mil/yr by him leaving, which is what we got Nelson/Barron for, basically. By the time the guarantees, etc play out, Moncrief as well probably.

So we got 2, probably 3 starters AND a compensatory 3rd rounder for a guy who's like 90-95% of Bell

Its funny, the Cowboys are probably a similar situation where it'd be smarter to keep Zeke, guarantee that ~50% of your offense can go through him, and just draft a new young QB instead.

You can keep Jones + Zeke for the price of keeping Dak.

 

Just my opinion, but in today's game you can't consistently win/be a contender without a good/great quarterback unless you have a near all-time great defense. I've watched the Cowboys post Aikman/pre Romo and suffered through 2015. No matter how great our defenses were in any of those years, which they usually weren't, it was painful and we were never ever ever a threat. I don't want to go through that again and I believe in Dak enough to stick with him.

 

Suh is gone and Whitworth will almost certainly be gone next year

QBs are also like the least sure thing these days so yeah that gamble probably wouldn't be worth it

 

Being in QB purgatory is the worst possible thing for an NFL fan to deal with, imo

The more I think about it, this really is the last year before we basically become a different team so we better take advantage of it. I can only think of 10-15 players that I'm confident will be back for the 2020 season. Pretty much everyone else is going going to be gone. Should be nuts.
