I just want to remind everyone in here I liked the Anthony Bennett pick at the time for the Cavs. Nailed it


Edit: Also why after the Cavs went with the "draft for need" strategy and passed up on Damian Lillard for Dion Waiters because we already had a point guard in Kyrie and the next year picked Bennett instead of Oladipo because we had Waiters Im very glad Cavs picked Garland despite having Colin Sexton.

I’ll never forget being at a bar for the 2013 NBA Lottery and everyone was cheering when the Cavs landed the No. 1 pick and I was furious because I knew not only was it the worst draft to land the No 1 pick but there was no way any of the most talked about players could have lived up to No 1 hype...I mean, the main names being thrown around back then before the actual draft were Noel, Len, Porter (who at the time, was who I wanted the Cavs to draft), McLemore, Oladipo (who obviously has become a great player but he struggled his first few years).

Funny thing is, my best friend was huge on taking Giannis that year before the draft. I remember everyone talked how he was most athletic but would be a huge project.

I was so excited about McLemore :(
Also really liked Bennett.. and Dipo, so uh 1 for 3

 

Jrue holiday for nerlens noel was a very bad trade

 

I always find it interesting to look back at drafts but generally hate the argument that Team X was dumb for drafting A over B, because in order to do that you need to think back to the context of the draft and no one ever does that.

Bennett is one of the exceptions same for The wolves taking 2 PGs over Curry.

But the argument of “we could have had, Giannis or Kawhi or whoever drives me crazy

 

Oh I agree with this completely and I assure you if Cavs drafted Giannis No. 1 overall in 2013 they would have ruined him...not to mention he never had any No 1 overall pick type of pressure placed on him seeing as he was drafted in the teens.

While Anthony Bennett is the biggest bust of all time, I always say that I don’t really blame the Cavs for that pick. That draft was a disaster, which is why I never wanted them to land the No. 1 pick in the first place. I don’t think there was one guy who could have handled the No 1 pick hype right away.

I mean...there were people in Cleveland who wanted to draft Alex fucking Len.
