I know all about DJ Hayden. We had a good reason to let Colvin go, top of our DB depth chart is stacked.

Our WR depth chart was thin even WITH Robinson. And we replaced a proven go-to possession receiver with a much more flimsy WR that the Jags always shut down when we played him.

We cleared up 6 million dollars basically, which we then spent on a TE in free agency... in a strong TE draft class year, where we could have easily addressed that position without a free agent. To me we downgraded from ARob for basically nothing.

 

Okay, so we could have let Lee walk and signed Moncrief to complement ARob instead. That's still better than what we did.

There's no angle or lens I've looked at this where it's logically the right move. We tried to play hardball with a WR in a weak WR class and we got fucking owned.

 

I agree. You're doing that thing where you're saying everything right but your conclusion is somehow still wrong. Lee is a far worse signing than Moncrief, so is Hayden. Moncrief is zero risk. It's a one year deal to see if he can still play like he did when he had an actual QB throwing to him.

Lee is what you do when you realize you fucked up with ARob and there's no options left so you better not damage another hometown player's ego. Overpaying Lee is part of the same "move" as passing on ARob. That's why it's a fucking F. We tried to fight ARob on his contract when he was the only good receiver we had AND the only one we were going to fucking get.

So now we overpaid two bums a total of 20 mill guaranteed this season.... to avoid giving ARob his 14 mill guaranteed or at least a 16 mill franchise if we needed to re-assess his value.

idk why teams are getting all greedy with this FA TE class. The draft has a potential Olsen, a potential Kelce and like 3-4 other talented dudes at TE. The teams that signed one in FA made the wrong choice imo.

Well I mean these teams can still draft a TE

 

I get the Colts not spending a pick on TE because they need RB, 1-2 WR, 2 OL, a replacement for Hankins, 2 starting LB and 1-2 CBs more than they need a backup TE.

Also they’re clearly making a push for comp picks and Ebron is one of the few choices who would willingly play for the Colts who doesn’t count against that

If you're not gonna give Bortles good WRs, give him two athletic TEs instead. We already signed TE, but that doesn't change the fact Gesicki will likely be the best weapon on the board still in the mid 20s picks, and also doesn't change the fact that the weakest point of our team now is Bortles' weapons
