When someone praises a prospect, it doesn’t mean they’re fully invested in them.

So tell me something awesome Supporter

This is false, every GM goes "Dammit that was the guy I wanted" after every pick in a draft

    @dotkevin

I know this is just a hypothetical, but the Manziel comparisons have been completely blown out of the water. Thankfully I remember reading during the Combine that nearly all GMs and scouts didn't buy into it.

Oh yeah I agree, and yeah it was hypothetical and just kinda showing "Hey there's still bust potential here"

The Manziel omen is blown out of proportion. Also, Manziel was ruined because of who he is as a person (different than Mayfield) and because the Browns refused to sit him. The Browns have Tyrod, they are committed to sitting their new QB.

If Josh Rosen is the QB they want (he isn't) then I take him first overall. But he's not.

I do this, absolutely. I think the part that keeps getting overlooked is that I believe they want Mayfield. If Mayfield is my guy, I am aware that the Bills want Rosen and will trade into the top three for him. I am aware that the Giants say they don't want a QB but other teams are pining for Josh Allen. I'm aware of all that so I take the risk of someone trading up for my guy because my back-up plan (Darnold) is technically a better prospect anyway.

So wait, other people have been saying this too?

I definitely see Mayfield as Manziel lite. Like not as talented but also not as wild. I definitely think based on his Oklahoma tape hes gonna have a hard time throwing to fairly well covered receivers, and hes gonna have a hard time with pocket presence. The dude has pretty fast feet but absolutely no control or nuance about how he moves behind the line.

The Manziel comparisons are so lazy, it's painful.

    Marshall Faulk is pre-2005.

Also, probably a bad stat because how many teams picking inside the top 10 since 2005 even have playoff wins? Jaguars, Browns, Lions, Redskins, etc are perpetual top 10 picks in that time frame with no playoff wins til the Jags this year

edit: And that stat starts in 2005 because the RBs selected in the top 10 prior to that destroy it. Ladanian Tomlinson, Jamal Lewis, Ricky Williams, Edgerrin James, and Fred Taylor have 16 playoff wins between them and a Super Bowl

I’m sure that’s how they felt when DeShone Kizer was selected at 52nd overall.

    That's like your opinion man.

I saw Manziel in there before I read anyone else saying that. Again hes not as much of a crazy freelancer... But he is similarly reckless when he goes mobile, which is likely to get him hurt badly, and in terms of pocket presence and reads I could see him having similar issues Manziel had when it comes to, trying to play QB the NFL way

I mean, it's not. Maybe YOU aren't lazy (you could just be wrong ;) ) but the media comparing him to Manziel is 100 percent lazy.

Love the Johnson signing, the money is pretty steep but that's the only way they can get anyone to sign with them lol and they have tons to spend.

    Fair

Also, Mayfield's arm strength is just okay. And he doesn't show enough anticipation on tape to compensate for having an average arm for an NFL bound QB. Thats the part thats really different from Manziel, Mayfield is more of a touch passer. And while he is accurate, he is gonna have to have way better timing to go along with his accuracy for that to work in the NFL.

Mayfield's arm strength is fine. Not ideal but it's fine. Especially for the receivers that the Browns have.

The Manziel comparison starts and ends with his height and his mouth. Also, Manziel could've been good. He failed himself and the Browns failed him as well. So even if he IS Manziel (he isn't), they've got Tyrod and a better coach. They'll do it right this time.

That's of course pretending like they aren't going Darnold/Allen and then Fitzpatrick.

I mean i can give like 6 or 7 specific reasons, not sure its lazy when im being specific about why I think so. The biggest thing they have in common is, their pre-pass footwork is a total mess

I havent brought up either one. I have several other concrete ways that I compare them though. Its not totally unfounded.

Its crazy how clear the shift in the game is though, based on RB draft position and wins.

if you drafted a RB in the top 10 (not named Curtis Enis) between 1998 and 2001, you won a playoff game within their rookie contract.

Tyrod is also one of the most ideal QB's for a rookie to sit behind. He's careful with the ball so you shouldn't have to throw whoever it is out there too quickly, and he's not a superstar that you're afraid to pull when the youngin is ready

Yeah. I don’t think we’re talking personality here. He has a bit of an ego, but, on the field, they’re pretty similar.
