I just read that the Cowboys' opponents haven't been called for holding since week 1, which is something that happened last year at a record level.

No but this is what it's like to have a great pass rusher and it will continue to happen

 

Yeah, Demarcus Lawrence was on a DPOY kind of level last year and, if I remember right, we went 9 straight games with only one holding call when the NFL average is 2 per game.

As soon as your star pass rusher gets name recognition, holding calls go out the window. JJ is vicegripped every play and it never gets called because he's JJ and people just expect him to break through em (and he does). That's actually part of why I think the Jaguars defense took a step back too. Calais played like an elite pass rusher, Ngakoue and Fowler both balled out too, and all of a sudden teams know to hold them.

Also a reason why teams like the Patriots who have/had guys like Trey Flowers and Rob Ninkovich can maintain a steady defense: they're good players at their position that don't burst through the scene enough to be called elite defenders.

Unpopular opinion but there's already too many football teams and they don't seem to do a whole lot for actual people other than raise their taxes to pay for these stadiums and make the surrounding areas more expensive as a whole.
