I can’t believe that this whole time, all you have to do to Giannis to get him off his game is look at him

I'm biased in that I don't want to see Houston win but seems like it goes both ways (refs were not good). Harden is great but I think that him along with a lot of other shooters in the nba have started shooting the ball with exaggerated unnatural motions (specifically waist and below) trying to draw contact. Now whether that's on the refs/league to change rules, it just isn't conducive imo to the way to play basketball.

Granted that I feel like this has always been part of the game, the difference is that anything in the paint has to be full on contact to be a foul and yet a perimeter shooter can initiate slight "contact" with a defender and get a call. Whether this the NBA trying to protect star players, make higher scoring games, or something else, I'm not sure, but it just opens up the league to more scrutiny on their refs.

I think the way players shoot to create contact/ flop on three point shots has put the refs in a near impossible situation. They are forced to make a judgement call and when there is contact or the shooter hits the deck, it’s hard to not call it a foul in real time.

Or they potentially overcompensate based on reputation and leave the door open for potential badly missed calls.

James was anticipating a foul call there, he pulled back cus he knows he got there late and didn’t even contest it. Should’ve called it

Klay was absolutely bulldozing him on contests in that first half and sliding under him constantly. He kicks a little forward on his stepbacks but Klay would keep jumping forward on his contests and undercutting him. That would’ve been 10 free throws

Fair enough, looking at reactions to the game and watching it, I thought the refs were bad on both sides. Just think you have Harden consistently moving 2-3 feet on a jumper to initiate contact which to me isn't a defensive foul (which wasn't what Klay was doing), but it creates a reputation of initiating contact which leads to refs either missing calls that lead to injury or over calling certain fouls leading to a player shooting 15+ fts a game.

I didn’t love the officiating in game 1, but I’m more frustrated that Harden can’t make shots and seems to be playing a very reserved version of the game he has played all year.

I’m more frustrated with Clint, House, Gerald all playing terribly. James is still doing his solid distributing and his defense has been great.

All I know is that being a ref in professional sports is probably one of the last jobs I would ever want

Outside the fouls on the 3's, I thought the warriors defended very well. They guarded that Capela pick and roll very well. They were active, and forced what seemed to be not normal Houston turnovers.

L2M comes out and Steph got his 6th foul twice. Super cool! I hate that these reports come out cus it doesn’t make anything better.

  20. I'd care about the officiating complaints a whole lot more (because they've been bad most of the playoffs so far) if it wasn't the two teams who benefit from whack officiating more than most in the regular season (and playoffs). The epic temper tantrums that are coming in this series from both sides will make it worth it.

I concur. Not only is having to make snap judgments in real time hard enough, but then you have the players and coaches constantly whining about the officiating if it adversely affects the outcome. Sure, the league fines them, but the amounts are laughably small for those guys, and it's obviously not deterring anyone from voicing their displeasure. I think I'd rather work customer service again than be an official.

i agree w this. wildly enough, the warriors handled it better than the rockets did in game one. it'll be interesting to see how it shifts when they go to houston.

It kind of reminds me of the way people talk about weather people. Like do you actually think that everyone who predicts weather is incompetent, or have you considered that predicting the weather isn’t that fucking easy lol

The other guys are frustrating yes, especially Clint, but I’m just sick of making excuses every year for why Harden can no longer make shots come playoff time. Yes he is contributing in other ways, but he is in the MVP conversation every year, just averaged 36 points a game, and people are bringing his name up as the greatest offensive player ever. I was convinced this was the year he would get over his playoff shooting problems and it is disappointing to see him pick up right where he left off.

Probably cus they benefited more off the shitty officiating.
