OL in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th this year and possibly the 1st next year but, optimism incoming, I don't think the Jags will be picking high enough.

I give it till about week 4. If they're smart they'll see it coming. If they're smart they'll understand that there's a reason why Gipson and Church aren't still on their old teams, and that drafting a rookie could light a fire under both their asses, and that chances are at least one of them will need to be replaced if we want to "win now" rather than later. 50/50 is still pretty optimistic odds for a free agent safety actually working out.

What sense does it make to have true competition at every other position but "welp those two geezers are all we got i hope they can hold up!!" is your solution at safety?

Church wasn't even that expensive. I just dont see his contract as a "barrier" especially since rookie contracts are also not a huge deal.

My question is, do you see this as a "win now" scenario?

well, lets back up, i said that because Coughlin said that was his goal. I see this as a "finish the defense now" scenario. Offense still needs a lot of work and something other than Bortles to focus on. Hence why I want Fournette even more than a safety.

If they're smart, they wouldn't have signed him in the first place. They wouldn't have signed Parnell or traded for Albert or let Beachum walk or hired Marrone or kept Hackett or drafted Yeldon or signed Ivory or signed etc...etc...etc... They aren't smart.

We don't have true competition at any other position but runningback, and that's because neither one of them are very good. My solution at safety has not been said because it's irrelevant. I'm interested in what is actually happening.

Church wasn't that expensive but he was signed for four years. I refuse to believe you don't see the logic here. If you didn't like Adams or we were talking about another team, this discussion wouldn't be happening haha.

Okay, that makes sense. And yeah, I think Fournette would be huge, especially if you DO end up being in a scenario where you want to thrust a late round rookie into the QB mix a la Dak Prescott.

  8. CarpetElf

I would be flabbergasted if any QB in this draft sniffed Dak's level, let alone a late round guy.

My biggest thing is I want a tight end in this draft.

Dak isn't really THAT great. He's good, way better than he was projected to be, but it has a lot to do with the situation he was drafted into. Great o-line, a few WR weapons, an invincible TE, and a VERY good RB. Now, I'm not saying he doesn't have better talent than a lot of picks in this draft because I'm sure he does, but it's more about "can we put a new QB into this situation without the QB dying in trial by fire?" as far as my comment goes.

I walk in solidarity with you here.

Nah fuck that everyone is just postulating I'd rather postulate about what will make the Jags actually better

I get it but like... drafting a better safety would make the Jags a lot better. Long-term. So who cares about the "logic" that just accepts that we paid a bad safety bad safety money (Ravens got a STEAL because Weddle was 33 and mad at the Chargers, and you know it)?

I will sit Barry Church's money ass on the bench. I'll even pad the damn sideline with his money so he's cozy and rain coins upon him every time we shut down a deep pass play. I will have the Jaguars pay for him to sit fucking business class, club seats at the stadium, unless he can get me 5 interceptions and 100 tackles...because Malik Hooker can get me that.

Instead of what will actually happen?

Yes, it would make them better. It's not happening. They signed Barry Church to a four year contract, they aren't replacing him less than a month into his contract. I don't think they take either Hooker or Adams but at this point if they do, it's Hooker. Gipson has been there a year, they know what they have in him. But they aren't taking a safety. Garrett, Fournette, Thomas, Allen. That's the list.

Elliot Smith is not a pop artist. Jaguars can't afford to skip on drafting a tight end in the first three rounds.

  15. Am I wrong to say a lot of the criticism McCaffrey has been getting during he draft process is misguided or just wrong? It seems like people are trying to find ways to not like him.

Yes and no. He's not a top ten pick.

oh god are we doin all this, i cant even

Elliott Smith is one of the most clever pop artists of all time actually. Just because his music is more complex and his topics more heavy and dense, doesn't mean it wasn't entirely focused on vocal melody and very specific chord structures. If you're going to say he's not pop good luck also arguing the Beatles aren't pop because that's his biggest and most obvious influence right there.

If you're going to limit pop to like Beyonce and Kanye and Katy Perry, then no, he's not pop. But I think that's a silly narrow way to define a very broad spectrum of popular music through the ages, that doesn't include the origins of the genre, and there are clear connections between 60s "motown" style pop and the more progressive style of pop music in the 70s to Elliott's songwriting style.

I think people are just afraid to call music with detailed guitar work or without some world class vibrato singer "pop". To me pop comes down to having a strong chorus, a repeated melody, relatable lyrics. XO and Figure 8 are indie-pop albums, I'd agree if you didn't want to include his earlier stuff cause that stuff sounds more like Nick Drake/Leonard Cohen-style folk.

I bet you also wouldn't consider Radiohead's In Rainbows to be remotely pop. In my opinion that's one of the best pop albums of the 2000s, and was by far Radiohead's strongest effort at making simply catchy, relatable, emotional music that was guided mostly by vocal melody.

fuck tight ends until we have a different QB than Bortles. And a different HC than Marrone who's also never really used them

Fucking Dustin. I hope your kid makes you buy a ferret. One day you'll wake up and pour a bowl of cereal and realize you have no spoons because the fucking ferret took them all. Then you will know the debt is paid.

    not pop????

Those are like, put the windows down in your car and sing like an idiot pop songs to me. They are all excellently arranged on raw instruments performed and written by the singer and not the producer. But it's still pop music in a general sense.
