Melnyk is a moron. I can’t wait for Karlsson to leave that team. Also, incredibly scared at how much Karlsson/Doughty will be paid on the open market. They already have made comments about potentially pushing the pay scale up. I just don’t know how you give them such large deals without sacrificing competitiveness. Look at Chicago with Kane/Toews. They’ve lost so much depth as a result of those deals.

 

But Chicago also paid handsomely for Keith, Seabrook, Crawford, and Hjalmerson. Those deals for Kane and Toews are definitely high, but I think the Keith/Seabrook deals are the ones that haven’t aged well.

 

Karlsson deserves Mcdavid money for how much he carries that offense/defense.

 

What Karlsson deserves is Nashville.

 

The Keith deal was an absolute steal. The Seabrook deal is the worst in hockey. Also Bowman made poor decisions with the Bickell contracts (his later MS-diagnosis notwithstanding) and the length of the Hossa deal that prevented us from having a scenario in which we could have kept Leddy and Teuvo and had Panarin and Saad on the team at the same time.

 

Wasn't pretty, but a win 22 hours after last night's game feels great.
