Apparently Fangio may be waiting to see if Shurmur is hired in Arizona, and if Fangio is hired there then Bettcher could be headed to Chicago. He's from NW Indiana and grew up a Bears fan.

 

Panthers should just trade Cam now and draft a tall white QB.

 

If Shurmur goes to the Cardinals, I bet Keenum goes there too

 

I’m actually not too upset with the hire. Not my ideal choice but it should be an upgrade from Shula. I didn’t actually have an issue with the system Shula wanted to run. He had good plays drawn up in his arsenal. The system was built to make Cam better and tried to cover his weaknesses. The issue was Shula being unable to effectively implement that system. While he has good plays in his playbook, he was awful at figuring out how to use those plays. He didn’t know how to situationally call plays. If his first idea didn’t work it was over. He also over-corrected his mistakes. Fans and reporters would criticize him for not running the ball enough one week. The next week it was time to relentlessly run it up the middle.

I don’t think Turner will have those same flaws. I’m definitely willing to give him a chance. When healthy, we have decent weapons. Bring in a couple more this offseason and the offense will be fine.

They have Olsen who is great but he turns 33 in March. He isn't going to be around much longer. They have Funchess who is probably better as a #2/3 WR and they have a nice pass catcher in Mccaffrey. thats it.

The Panthers need to add speed to their offense in the worst way.

 

Curtis Samuel and Damiere Byrd were both good when healthy. And those two guys have plenty of speed. The problem is they were both injured all season. We can’t count on them to be there. So yes, we need to add some speed WRs. But it’s not as desperate of a need as it appears to be.

 

Also, Funchess is still really young. He’s 23 years old with 3 years experience in the league. And he was drafted as a guy that would take 2-3 years to develop. He’s improved each season and had somewhat of a breakout season this year with a terrible OC and with a QB having maybe his worst season statistically. Funchess will be a solid #2, borderline #1 guy if he continues on his current track.

3 - Samuel
4 - Byrd

If we can find a guy to pair with Funchess as the other top WR we will be ok (assuming healthy).

 

I do not think Funchess is very good.

Panthers need to stop going for guys who can't catch.

But they also need to stop going for boring coaches or exciting players. They have one of the most versatile offense in the league.

Came in to say this. Carolina needs to draft some receivers imo.

Ted Ginn going to the Saints has got to be painful. That playoff bomb downfield was a huge point in the game where NO took over.

At first I didn't think they were going to, they were talking about trading him before the deadline. But then he played extremely well after the rumors came out, so honestly we might try to resign him for a 1 or 2 year deal.

Is getting lucky in the draft the only option this year? Free agency doesn't have much to offer unless they want to pay up for Jarvis Landry or someone. Samuel is the wild card for me. Never played but added a cool wrinkle to the offense when he was healthy.

 

I mean he's not being asked to recruit, lead the team, or even call plays so I'm not that worried about it. Seems like he's a glorified QB coach with a better title who just happens to have experience running a spread offense.

 

Still think it's a weird move haha
