We ain’t cutting Dede. We drafted him despite his off field news, and he’ll get opportunities. Sucks that our team isn’t 100% clean but that’s an unrealistic goal.

Cut Ivory and Parnell for SURE. I prefer to keep Lee & ARob and cut Hurns but wouldn’t be surprised if Lee is the odd man out.

Cousins is a nice grab but we won’t be the only team interested. I’m not gonna be mad at Caldwell if we have to sit through one more year of Bortles, especially since that makes it more likely we draft somebody. I maintain that this is the whole reason we picked up 5th year option - security in case we can’t have a good replacement right away.

I do. Out of all the available candidates, I feel like he’s the best one. I’m excited for the future of the team, and I think getting him is a good step in a new direction for this team.

With Cousins, Keenum/Bridgewater, and Smith on the market, I'm not sure where the issue is for Caldwell. Cousins may chase the money, though he said his issue is a long term deal. Maybe he'll take 20-22 and go to the team who was one QB away from destroying the entire NFL.

You can TRADE for Smith.

Make no mistake lol. I want the fucking RING next year. It's not going to ever be more realistic than next year, when we actually don't have to touch the roster at all.

 

I might take trading for Alex Smith over signing Cousins. Get the guy who knows how to play in that mindset of, let the defense give us momentum and field position for easy scores, just don't fuck that up. I also trust Alex Smith more to make the proper line calls to maximize success for our running game, and to make sure free rushers are accounted for before passing snaps.

We also wouldn't need to give Smith as long of a deal, making it MUCH easier to resign Ramsey and Yannick when it's time to do that, and could still draft our own handpicked franchise QB in the next two years.

Patriots defenses under DC Matt Patricia by DVOA rank: 15th, 20th, 12th, 16th, 31st. I don't get the hype.

 

DVOA? Not sure what that stat is, but I think the hype is mostly that the Pats don’t really invest too too much on the defensive end, this year excluded, and they’re typically towards the top of scoring statistics and defensive efficiency ratings.

Edit: The beard is solid too.

 

DVOA is a defensive efficiency stat that adjusts for opponent quality. Also, since Patricia was hired as DC, Pats have used 8 of their 10 first or second round picks on defensive players. If you expand that to third round picks they've used 14/19 picks on defensive players. I think that's a pretty heavy investment.

 

I guess that's a fair point. I looked at investment more from the contract side. They're secondary is up there with McCourty and now Gilmore and hopefully Butler, but they've never really put too much emphasis on the pass rush. They drafted jones but got rid of him before his first real contract. They don't use hightower too much in that role, and Collins was used a lot in coverage.
