Saw a piece on the news that Jamal Charles was helping at a camp for special needs kids today. Pretty cool that he's already getting involved with the community after only being here like a week

Love how the cards signed gabbert over Kap, hope they get the 10th pick next year and all get fired.

Is there really a market right now for Bowman? 2 major injuries in the last few years. I feel like teams would want to see him back on the field before making offers.

For starters the fifth year option is not guaranteed. So that throws away most of the presumptive attitude in this article. If Bortles bombs again this year without any improvement he's likely gone anyway. All it did was buy us time to draft an actually good QB since this year's QB class sucked.

Trubisky isnt even certain to be better than Bortles imo, much less Mahomes or Watson if they were to be drafted by us and not GOOD teams. Bortles does need to be replaced but let's learn from Cleveland here, making hasty changes just turns into the team habitually drafting busts. There's no such thing as a quick solution in the NFL, since that involves not waiting for the best fit, not taking time to develop inexperienced talent, etc. I would have hated wasting a first round pick to not actually solve our QB problem. There wasn't really a good way to address it THIS offseason.

Having Bortles in 2018 would mean we don't have to throw Darnold/Allen/Rosen/Browning to the wolves right away when we draft a real QB next year. So we can take whatever QB we want and groom them patiently and properly. Say for example, Josh Allen has more potential but is more raw? We're not forced to cross him off our draft board if we don't need to draft someone who can start right away.

Bortles started week 3 of his rookie season out of necessity because, no matter how many people can tell me how awful Bortles looks, Henne was goddamn worse. Who knows? Maybe Bortles' entire career narrative might not be so bad if we had a better QB than Henne in place, and could have sat Bortles until he got his mechanics right. By starting him right away, we just reinforced bad habits he hadn't broken yet.

By giving Bortles year 5, we're making sure the next guy we draft has that opportunity and that time for refinement. Whatever rookie we draft will be learning from someone who: knows the offense, but also makes enough mistakes to be worth competing against.

This guy is out of his mind to suggest paying 16 million for Fitz is a better strategy, that's not even a real solution. Even if Bortles has a 5% chance of improving, Fitz's chance is 0%. He's already past that hump. If our end game is to draft someone new to be our franchise QB.... then why would we go get somebody old in between, who doesn't know the offense and can't offer us any upside or long term contribution at all? All that ACTUALLY says to your fanbase is "we're just not gonna worry about QB right now, and focus on the rest of our team" -- that is the LAST move the Jags need to be making. And this also doesn't take into account the fact Fitz would be more expensive, since he isn't gonna take a one-year contract that obviously ends in him having no chance to be the guy - he'd ask for guarantees, incentives, at least a 2 year deal, etc.

HIs other suggestion is even worse. GIVING AWAY a draft pick for Mike Glennon that we could have used to trade up for/draft a good prospect. And still paying him 15 mill/season. LO FUCKING L.

it's also convenient to intentionally ignore supporting cast for most of this article... but then compare Fitz, a QB who had a running game and a solid O line practically everywhere he had success (Houston, Buffalo, Cincy, NYJ) to a QB who has had all the pressure of his offense. Bortles has shown he can't handle that pressure, but it's pretty wrong to imply that Fitz can. If he could then why do only nearly-complete teams who are just desperate for a QB sign him? Why wouldn't rebuilding teams sign him? These rhetorical questions answer themselves.

But trubisky doesn't play for the jags so he might at least be a career backup

Quick clarification, it is guaranteed for injury. Its why Bridgewater wasnt 5th year tendered, which would otherwise have been a really smart way to keep him just in case (but with the knee, they might eat $10+mil for no good reason).

Injuries haven't been Bortles issue, but, if he tears an ACL or something, you will 100% be paying him that money. Any injury that would prevent him from being cut before Day 1 of the league year, basically.

Bortles is better than Glennon and there shouldn't be any doubt otherwise. Glennon has more neck than he does feet.
