Haha ayee, hence the NBA check qualifier.
I just put a lot of value in a year of NBA practices, traveling with the team, learning the off the court life from the vets and focusing entirely on basketball. Gotta give you a massive leg up on a guy who was living in a dorm a year ago.

I think a lot of people are getting, essentially, NBA checks. I think the money being a delineator of a word that is all about playing time on the court is flawed.

And someone going to Kansas has a leg up on someone going to St Marys. Doesn't change if they're a rookie or not. Having a leg up on someone because of circumstances, be it college, abroad, amount of years in college, or what college ... doesn't make someone a sophomore or a freshman or a rookie or a second year player.

 

I’ll be honest, I would be totally fine with the NBA just doing away with ROY as an award.

In fact, I think the NBA could do with some tinkering with most of their awards.

 

do away with awards entirely and just gimme the all nba/rookie/defense teams

 

I’d be fine with:

Player of the Year

All NBA / All Defense

And then, if you want to include something to indicate “promising” talent, you could have a “All NBA Future” team, which would consist of players under 25 or something.

 

Even this is getting hard to do because of positions and where to put players.

I agree, but the history of MVP I think will forever be around. We definitely need a better definition of what it means though. IMO.

 

For sure. I’ve come to think that maybe Rachel Nichols’ proposal is the best way to preserve that legacy and add some clarity.

Make it clear that MVP means “Best player in the NBA.” So, basically, LeBron should have won it for like the last 8 years.

And then have an award for “Most Outstanding Season,” which will basically be the award that we think of now as MVP.

Nah, that's confusing and kind of pointless.

I think they need to go back to anonymous voting. Why Steph was the only unanimous pick, no one wanted to go against the narrative. Same thing with Westbrook's arbitrary sixth seed MVP which looks worse and worse.

 

The Mavericks organization doesn't deserve how wonderful Dirk Nowitzki is and has been
