Fuck, I'm down the USA Today rabbit hole now. Someone get me out. Seriously, every headline on here is horribly sensationalist.

I agree that it's pretty clear Lebron wasn't trying to take away anything from Curry, but Lebron of all people should know that the media would twist his words. Everything he has ever done has been picked a part a used to fit a certain narrative. He probably should have just left it at "he deserves it".

  5. I thought the USA today was kinda like ... reputable or something. I guess I was wrong.

    Me too... kinda confused now.

  7. Yeah I saw that. It still doesn't show how the reporter asked the question. There's a good chance Steph never saw that clip of LeBron. So if the reporter asked him "What do you think of LeBron questioning what the MVP award really means" or something else dumb like that....Steph's response doesn't sound as douchey.

How can that "writer" say "take LeBron off the Cavs and they'd be working to sneak their way into the playoffs"? They'd still be a solid team I feel like.

I'm still going to read Curry's response as douchey haha.

Either way, such an unnecessary thing to even wonder. Who cares? Is that from the same USA Today article?

  11. He responds with "look at his stats, why is this a debate, great year, he deserves it" and then everyone is OMG! why was he so passive aggressive and curt!? The "he should know better" shit really bugs me. He should know that people are dumb? Like if people are going to twist every single thing he says, but he's required by contract to speak to the media, or it gets worse if he doesn't ... it ticks me off. Like that's what we are saying to our athletes, they should just know everyone is stupid and never say anything? That's how we get end of half comments and sideline reporters that truly are a waste of all of our time.

The video makes it even more clear Lebron was praising Curry haha.

    Yes sir.

  14. Because we've seen what Kyrie and Love led teams have done in the past? We see what this team is like without him on the court. I'm on the this would be a barely over .500 team without LeBron side of that. They're 4-14 without him.

  15. Teams can have short term success when a star player goes down. But the longer that player is out, you start to see how valuable he is. Look at the Clippers this year with Blake. If Curry was down for an extended period of time GSW would come down to earth a bit. However, LeBron is a bigger loss to his team than Curry is to his.

  16. I looked for it and can't find anything else. And going through all this is going to make my brain hurt. Some of the quotes really have shown me why this hot take 0 or 100 culture is so bad. Some fun ones:
Yes, value is subjective, but here's something else that's subjective: LeBron's comments were petty, ignorant, and unbefitting someone of his skill and intelligence.

Whatever LeBron was trying to get at with his comments, he failed to articulate his argument well enough to merit anything other than scrutiny.

t's an antiquated standard that LeBron, one of the greatest players and basketball minds of all time, should be better than.

It's a shame to see that he isn't.

But then Curry bested even himself this season, won a second consecutive MVP, and has pushed LeBron out of The Greatest discussion — almost making him irrelevant. LeBron is not happy about that. He’s been on an anti-Warriors tear ever since. However he’s very passive-aggressive about it, almost speaking in code.

  17. Ok, never again am I looking for news stories about sports. I'm done!

  18. The weirdest thing about the media to me is that they chose what to be angry about, and generally lead the pitchfork army of goons into their 15 seconds of outrage. Yet when Pop has his meltdown last night every radio show asks "why aren't people mad about that??!?!" They spend the whole show asking why people aren't upset rather than just being upset about it.

It's weird and backwards and confusing.

EDIT: It's hard to explain on the internet. But what I'm saying is...the media controls what people are upset about (because most of the outrage in sports isn't genuine). So I never understand when they ask why people aren't mad about things when they are the ones who tell everyone what to be mad about.

Is the "he should know better" argument flawed? Definitely. I suppose I didn't look at it from the perspective of it being a clamp on free speech. The Cavs are always scrutinized, so I guess even if the media does blow this out of proportion it shouldn't be a distraction on the team. Again, I totally agree that he obviously didn't intend undercut Curry. It's just the unfortunate nature of sports media. Really all media in this country. Shit is strictly about getting clicks, not quality these days. I like to believe that quality ultimately beats this type of stuff out in the long run (though the Grantland shut down briefly shook my faith in that).

  20. They do this when it's the Hooded One from New England too.

  24. Another example of people hating LeBron just to hate LeBron, I remember when him and Wade always did their pressers together people were annoyed by it. KD and Westbrook do it and you don't hear a peep.
