I don't know if the Astros will ever be a success at the ticket window honestly, doesn't seem to be much support from fans in general. Not quite as bad as TB/Miami but still not great. I definitely see the Astros turning it around this year and making it a competition for AL West with my Rangers but I get what you mean. I feel like the Astros are a couple pitchers away from being elite on a yearly basis, just gotta get the right ones.

I believe in what the Braves are doing, but wouldn't taking on bad contracts for draft picks set them back even further? I don't know what their plans are this next offseason, but it seems like they are content to develop guys (which is great) without having to add any free agent pieces. If that's the case, see you in five years.

This is basically what I was trying to say. In order to take on the bad contracts they would have to give SOMETHING up right, even if it isn't their best prospects. Just don't really understand the point of that if what they've been doing all this time is trying to stockpile all this prospect depth to make them better. I understand not all of it will be used for the major league team but still, just seems backwards to me.

They already have the #1 farm right now. They went from 29th before last season, to 1st. In a year. That's pretty remarkable, but I guess the one thing to consider if most of those guys that make the farm so great right now are going to be in the bigs after this season. That means your farm system is drained again.

It's never a bad idea to stockpile prospects imo, but with the current state of the team, not at the expense of taking on more bad contracts that you just spent a year+ shedding.

Agreed on all points. Just because a farm is great at the moment, alot can change in a year(obviously). Rangers for instance have had alot of great farm systems in the past several years and alot of those top prospects didn't turn out to be so great after a year or so, namely Mike Olt, Neil Ramirez, Cody Buckel, etc.

Yep, prospects are never a certain success, even the most coveted. Again, I really think what they are doing is great for the long-term success of the club. I think bringing even more prospects in is great, especially to keep your farm healthy when the current guys come up, but I don't want them falling into another bad contract trap.

The idea, unless I'm missing something, is that they give up nothing of real value and receive a bad contract and competitive balance picks. What they're giving up is the money to pay for the bad contracts during a time when they don't expect to be competitive.

Not the contracts that I'd expect them to want to take on. No more than four years, leaning towards less years, obviously. They won't need the money in the down years and when the next core is first coming up.

  8. Honestly I think that's a good move for the Braves. They'd be giving up probable career minor leaguers for contracts gone in 2-4 years to beef up the younger side of their farm system which is definitely the weaker portion of it. So when those contracts come off the books, the older prospects they have now will be beginning their prime or a year or 2 away, still in arb probably, and the guys they pick with those picks will be where their older prospects are now. And on top of that bc those bad contracts will be gone, they'll be in a position to fill holes or beef up with FAs. It's a really good move imo.

    Y'all want Pablo?

I didn't know the Cubs aren't allowed to play night games on Fridays. Why is that?

    Give what you can.

Good q. Best answer I could find was to limit the amount of traffic in the area during rush hour. The stadium is already in a super congested spot with hardly any parking, and it's pretty far from any major highways. They do night games on other weekdays, but they're definitely limited.

I think the Cubs day games are a great tradition for the sport. Kind of makes it tough for fans to catch a lot of games I guess, but it's pretty cool to me. It's funny that they aren't "allowed" to play night games on Fridays though.

Should be a rule that the Rangers are allowed to play games against good teams!

Apparently the modern day record is 17 set in 1953 by the Red Sox against the Tigers. That's absurd.

People would have batted 3 times in one inning right? That's crazy.

Honestly I might have in like 7th grade or something hahaha. But doing it at the Major League level? How does a team not get 3 outs

Yeah, I'm aware. Have you seen the shit show that is the Braves? I'm allowed to get excited about it.

Still can't believe that Shelby Miller trade. Braves got so much for a mediocre pitcher.
