2017 definitely feels too early. That they're holding onto Freeman and Teheran does make me wonder if they plan to aggressively push in by signing and trading for players, as opposed to wait for things to organically develop a la HOU. Or maybe they just haven't received good enough offers and/or are afraid to completely commit to a hard tank, if not in actuality, just to the perception of one.

Admittedly, I don't know the Braves system, but these things take time. HOU bottomed out in 2011, brought Luhnow in for 2012, and arrived earlier than expected in 2015. In large part because they hit the lottery on Keuschel and McHugh. If ATL takes the same path, they might not arrive until the 2020's.

I know that when they started the tear down they initially said 2017 to coincide with the new park opening. I'm sure they will use some of the players in the system, especially from their stockpile of young arms, as bargaining chips to get players further along in their development. They need a long term catcher and gave a dearth of power. But I still think 2017 is way too rosy of an outlook, they need guys like Swanson and Albies, etc to get more minor league seasoning let alone major league production before they're ready to compete on a day to day, let alone for the playoffs

They could be good again that early. Could be. They will have a ton of money to spend this offseason, and we will see some of those highly touted prospects at the start of next year as well. I definitely know what you mean when you look at this team, but it's not very likely we see half of this 25-man roster which the organization after this year.

I think the thing that really worries me is the rotation. They certainly have enough arms in the system where they can find 4 to catch on behind Teheran, the question is just how long that will take. Its certainly going to be an interesting few years

Didn't realize Turner Field was in its last year.

They have a stockpile of arms, but I agree, I don't know that they'll be ready in that short time. I think they are hoping Wisler has a good season and continues to improve. He looked good last night, but small sample size.

Also, I should say that when I say they could be good next year, I don't mean class of the NL, I mean possibly competing for a wild card if everything goes right.

I'm just hoping for an Adam Wainwright for Ray King kind of deal from them again.

Pitching still a major letdown after Keuchel so far this season

Ugh. I don't know what makes me more upset. That trade or the king's ransom for a season and a half of Mark Teixiera

Probably 2018, maybe they start signing some guys next year though just to start the build up

Keep in mind, I'm banking on a lot of things to go right and that doesn't always happen. I'm just saying it's not inconceivable that 2017 is going to happen.

No way the Braves can be competitive next year. And I don't think next year's free agent class is good enough to make a difference? I don't remember. I don't see much of the Braves but I remember last season when the Yankees played them, they had a guy pitching that had been in the minors 9 years. Inciarte was a good pickup and Swanson and Newcomb should be real good. (Ripped off the DBacks good lol) They surely stocked the farm system but this team will probably be sniffing 110 losses.

Braves are 2-3 years off from being even a thought to compete. Same with all these teams who are rebuilding or tanking. Whichever term fits your fancy. They have a bright future but prospects in baseball are so unreliable that you can't just bank in 2 years these certain guys will be ready for the big leagues and to perform.

Between position players and the rotation, the Braves have maybe three starting caliber players on the team right now? I'm not down on their future by any means, but they've dug a deep hole, it's going to take a while to get out of it.

Give me a break. As shitty as the team was last year, they lost 95 games. Are you serious with that?

110 losses is pushing it though. There are a bunch of bad teams in the NL to split series with.

Yeah I can't see this year's team being any worse than last year and they only had 95 last year.

I guess it's possible I have my homer blinders on. I'm not saying they'll sniff a World Series, but, if everything goes right, they could be pretty competitive and sniff a WC.

In crossing my fingers for it. I honestly thought they looked good last night against the Cards until they blew their lead.

And they even further stripped the team of major league talent. I'd be shocked if they lost less than 100 games. But that's why they play the games and maybe they beat the hell out of the Phillies and the Marlins, who knows lol.

Sure 110 is an exaggeration I admit

To be fair I have nothing against the Braves, and one of my best friends is a diehard Braves fan so I've talked them a little bit with him. Aren't they significantly worse as far as major league talent goes than they were last year? Honest question if anyone can enlighten me. I go off my friend and he talks like they're doomed this season lol.
