He has a relationship already with the Brewers, he might feel its better to be with the devil he knows than the devil he doesnt know. Perhaps his family lives Milwaukee, so instead of going to a new team making the same money but being away from family, friends, relationships he has built with the Brewers and getting paid the same, he chose to veto the trade and stay with what is familiar.

He just got promoted to AAA about a week ago. I'd say he's a guy who sticks in AAA and is maybe a August/September call-up next year. Maybe they hold him off until that April/May control deadline in 2018? It all depends how the Yanks' roster shakes out with trades and what not. I'd think Judge would be up before Frazier though.

I thought Judge was gonna be up after his homer binge like a month ago. Keep hearing his strikeouts need to improve, but strikeouts are part of the game now. I think he's done all he'll do in AAA, at worst he'll be up on Sep 1st and probably to stay with Beltran leaving. Maybe earlier. Frazier was a great get. Only 21 too. If he's a year away that's fine. Yanks won't be awful, but definitely not seriously contending next year. Frazier can just keep developing.

    The rivalry is back on

I was worried this wasn't going to be an exciting deadline (especially with the Braves not shaping up to be major players), but so far, so good!

Excited to see what the Rangers' big move is.

Yeah. Frazier has somewhat improved on his strikeout issues. Still not great, but he's becoming more disciplined. They'll certainly have some power in that outfield. He was certainly the hardest piece to give up, but I figured Frazier or Zimmer would be moved at some point.

See this is what I'm anticipating but after this I'm getting a bit worried.

However JD does tend to play things pretty close to the vest so I'm still pretty certain something happens

This is really why this situation leaves Lucroy to criticism.

Lucroy isn't just trying to get his payday this year rather than wait until next year and the possibility that he is bad.

  17. He's still gonna end up on either a different team or Milwaukee with the same damn bargain contract next year. He has no leverage there. So why not try to get some hardware before his eventual payday?

This Yan Gomes being a wrench in the deal thing that's obviously being floated out there by his camp is hysterical.

Yeah, we'll see. Between Archer, Odorizzi, Moore, Quintana, Velasquez, and then some of the very unlikely but still possible names (Sale, Gray, Teheran, etc), something's probably gonna give.

I dont think him playing first, let alone DH adds versatility at all. Almost all catchers these days get moved to first as they age, there isnt any question about whether or not Lucroy would be able to do that for a team or be able to be a DH. No team would pay him more in 2018 because he did those two as well as catch.

There's a shitload of scouts at the Yankees vs rays series today... ;-p

I dont think Velasquez moves unless there is an overpay for him, something like Mazarra and Gallo. There is no reason a young rebuilding team needs to trade a young potential ace under team contract for 5 more years unless they get a massive overhaul.

It's not uncommon for the Rays to come to a trade agreement at the last possible moment.
