I think it could be a myriad of things.....Cox being younger and home grown plays into it a decent amount, I believe (partnered with the fact he's played for a number of defensive coaches with varying styles and performed in them all). But between Suh's on field antics, pushing 30, and the reports of him being a locker room cancer in Detroit, that probably soured a number of people.

Partner all of that with the fact that Schwartz' defense is really tailor-made for Fletch. I've yet to see a single person say Fletcher won't kill it in this defense.

 

Miami always signs dudes to big deals and they don't pay off. That's the one that sticks out to me the most.

Okay but Miami does it more and everyone thinks they're making the playoffs every year. The hype gets tiresome.

 

I don't really ever see mainstream people picking them to be in the playoffs every year and I know for a fact the fans don't. They are tired of the same old shit for the most part, just as I am.

It isn't a big deal overall I just thought it was a point of discussion.

The Steelers have a ton of ex-players as coaches. Some are better than others. Alan Faneca is on as an intern right now which is pretty cool. I think this year or next year will be make or break for Carnell Lake though. He finally has some promising secondary pieces. Until now you could blame the personel. But that crutch isn't there anymore.

Went to Jags practice today.

Prince Amukamara is the real deal. Seemed like the only CB out there who had no panic, not even when he had to guard Hurns or Lee. Keeping his hips on a swivel and taking good angles to deflect the ball at the top of the route both come naturally to him and his athleticism is clear.

Julius Thomas also looking like Julius Thomas should look. Just kept ripping the ball down in traffic with dudes draped all over him and just totally manhandled guys at the release point at the line of scrimmage, one time he lined up wide and threw Cypdawg completely out of bounds before catching a 20 yard post.

 

I continue to like the pick up of Broddy-Calhoun. There's too many CBs to compete with but he could make the roster as the last guy purely for cost reasons.

 

Where are they going to play Ramsey? Seems like he might be better at corner but doesn't Jax have a bigger need at safety?

There is no chance Ramsay overtakes Gibson. There's a bigger need at corner for sure. Gibson has looked great.

 

Apparently they already love Tashaun Gipson. Ramsey will play corner.

Ramsey is the only one I see realistically competing for the top spot with Amukamara. They said they're gonna start him out at nickel so he learns everything easier

 

Maybe lee can stay healthy this year?

 

He seems to have a really strict conditioning regimen now and has looked every bit as explosive in practice as he did on his limited film so far. Not necessarily anything new on the talent front, Lee typically gets open all the time when he's playing, but keeping those hamstrings together is the biggest challenge for him.

For what it's worth this is the first time in 3 offseasons hes had perfect attendance through OTAS.

 

Lee looked bad in special teams drills. I hope he either improves or we just keep Greene and Walters.

 

Why do you say that? I didn't notice any problems. They were mostly just catching punts and I didn't see him drop any.

Greene should absolutely remain our primary return guy though

 

I forgot they had Gipson. How has Cyprien looked? That defense is setting up nicely. If the rookies (Fowler included) develop quickly they'll be fun to watch.

Jags fans have plenty of reasons to be excited.

 

He dropped three punts and he looked awkward in the return drills. I'd rather Greene, Walters, Grant, and Marshall. Especially with Lee having injury concerns.
