If only Jets could and they had Hard Knocks, we could watch the QB battle of Brock Osweiler and Josh McCown

"Mariota consistently waits for a guy to get open."
"Mariota would waste a guy whose best trait is getting open."

    Ok.

Mariota is a better QB than Bortles with a better running game and better line.

They technically could. Brocks cap hit is $16mil, but if he restructured his deal before being traded, they could do it. But Brock is getting himself cut before he accepts a trade.

That said, the notion the Browns could get a 2nd AND something else for him would be hilarious

Jeeze, Browns have so many future draft picks too...2 1st and 2 2nds this year, and 3 2nds next year (and an extra 4th and 6th).

Guess we'll find out early if they think Trubisky is the future, because they have tons of ammo to get him. Move from 12 to wherever with 33 or 51, as well as multiple 5ths, 6ths, and future 2nds to sweeten any deal. Hell, if they could do it for 51, they could still get value back by trading 33 later

His deep ball just hangs like a duck in the air with no precision or velocity or confidence. He wouldn't throw far enough to hit Ross deep, the safety would catch up while Ross had to slow down... and by the time Mariota saw him open on a crossing route and finally threw to him, with Ross speed, he's already crossed into another defenders zone.

Semantics don't actually settle arguments dude because that's not how it actually works. In reality speedy wide receivers thrive off anticipation. It's possession receivers that can be thrown to late and still hold on to the ball while tackled.

Not even by that much though. You overrate the shit out of Mariota and have since draft day.

And Bortles would be a better quarterback than Bortles if he had a better running game and a better line. Now imagine Mariota behind the Jags line. Might not be as bad but it'd be pretty bad.

A lot of plays are being designed for single-read spread QBs now, so Mariota may just be playing within a system (which makes plenty of sense considering he is a system quarterback).

But I'll take your word for it because Madden.

It's reaching to say that simple concepts like anticipation aren't represented on a smaller scale in Madden.

Not every play is a single read play and it's not exactly hard to tell as a spectator when the play was designed that way. It's hard for the defense to tell in real time... but I tend to watch plays on all-22 tape twice or three times when studying the QB to make sure I understand what the play was designed to do.

Just as well there are single read plays that still require timing and anticipation because that single read is designed to be wide open on a time sensitive, specific window before the defense closes in. Mariota being hesitant and waiting for a perfectly clear lane hurts him even in a single read offense.

Is it reaching to say that all coverages in Madden are unrealistic, so it doesn't really matter what play you pick?

You are using a massively flawed (while fun/entertaining) video game in an argument about actual football. It is reaching in every possible way.

Look at these numbskulls that are playing in these MUT tournaments going on. They are good because they've found every possible exploit in the game to take advantage of, not because they have football knowledge. It is a video game.

Semantics settle arguments as well as ESPN commentary does haha. John Ross is the perfect receiver for Mariota. He thrived in college with those types of receivers. And none of those guys actually knew how to play receiver. Ross is damn good.

I haven't though lol. Mariota is excellent. Not like Winston, but he's excellent. Got a ways to go but if he gets there he's gonna be very very good.
Mariota behind the Jags line would run more.

i can see you're clearly missing the memo that that comparison was meant with a grain of salt. I just wanted to indicate that anticipation is so crucial for a QB that it's even a necessary skill in the video games.

But let's throw that comment out of the discussion then: Compared to other QB Mariota is either very hesitant and spends too much time waiting for an easy throw, or is otherwise too quick to take a 2 yard checkdown on third and long. A lot of it is single read plays yeah, but at the same time I'm not going to praise a QB who doesn't ad lib (aside from using his legs which is clearly his best skill) or try to think ahead of the defense when he needs a conversion.

Now if we are comparing to Bortles, Bortles tries to do those things too much when he's below average at anticipation and hit or miss at ad libbing. So he gets our team into more trouble and isnt clean enough to be considered "better" than a relatively clean prospect like Mariota. But from a mentality standpoint I am glad he tries and doesn't back down from the challenge of trying to outdo the opponent. I personally think it takes more talent and guts to try and actually surprise the defense, than just to always follow the path of least resistance (basically how I see Mariota.)

Here's controversy for you - Bortles despite being a worse QB would be a lot better for Ross. Not that I want to draft him though.

In a vacuum. Bortles on the Titans would be better but not on the Jags. Bortles would still force it to Robinson and Lewis and still pay tribute to Hurns and Lee. Ross has #1 potential.

Also, I don't think that's true. Ross is again, the typical Mariota receiver.

Ross is 100% better with Mariota.

This is Josh Huff, but it might as well be John Ross....looks too perfect.

If the Eagles don't draft Ross, I want him in Tennessee or Oakland or Carolina.

Oh I know...I just have dreams of Carr with Coop/Ross. That'd be so much fun and I would immediately become a Raiders fan (although, I already kinda pull for them).

It's not as much about stats as his actual play, he dropped a lot of balls
