dude you are so ready to do an Upon Further Review film article. It's one thing to watch the tape its another to see it like this and try to watch the play in real time through the eyes of the QB's progression, rather than tell the QB what decision he should have made with hindsight.

I've started really focusing on that since you pointed out the flaws in my Teddy Bridgewater article.

 

He is terrible at being patient and pre snap reads, if he waited he hits that; had a really clean pocket all night.

 

So the Browns are actually going to wear all white color rush jerseys...

It's Cleveland, so I'm suspect of the effectiveness of those blitzes, but that is a really really good statistical anecdote for Eagles fans and is pretty fucking impressive. Per PFF, in their rookie seasons Bortles and Carr were two worst against the blitz (and Bortles was really bad): only Bridgewater was even close to the league average

 

I just want to point out the saddest part about the Bortles comment - He was actually graded better against the blitz.

 

I get that its Cleveland and to pump the brakes (which I absolutely 100% am) however this is also a QB who played DivII football and had something like 20 snaps in the first preseason game and nothing beyond that due to injury. Kid was extremely impressive given his background and being thrown into the fire with one of the most ruthless crowds in the NFL.

He had some real chemistry with the offensive skill players too which will only get stronger that I don't think Bradford ever had (except maybe with Jordan Matthews). Nelson Agholor actually looked like an NFL receiver when just a month or so ago, there were thoughts about the Eagles trying to trade him.

 

man, just rewatching the MNF games. the Steelers fucking, in the first game of the year so arguably the game that matters the least, going for it on 4th & 1 in the first quarter, from the 28 (WELL in field goal range), and not only trying to get the yard but calling a downfield play action and taking a designed shot at the end zone (WTF) and actually completing it (WTF) even though two defenders were on Antonio Brown... that is the most Mike Tomlin thing I've ever seen.

The Steelers are so aggressive for no reason and it WORKS. I feel like Tomlin constantly rolls the dice and dares the defense to even think about stopping Ben/AB whenever they need (want?) a big play. Thats when you really have a good QB/WR tandem, when you can just get greedy with your playcalling and take over the momentum of the game.

That play and Rodgers' 52 second drive on us are when it really hit me that the football season is here and I'm about to see hundreds of things the next few months that blow my mind and are seemingly unrepeatable.

 

The funniest part about that play is Ben had two safer targets that were open immediately and he still bombed it to AB in double coverage lol

 

NFC west is one lucky division right now
