Well, and its pretty clear the Browns are gonna shed everyone that isnt in their first contract unless they fill a specific role. Only 4 starters over the age of 27 and they are Thomas, Barnidge, Greco, and Tramon Williams. Williams may not even start come Week 1, and Joe Thomas may well get traded.

So, if the Browns had shown any proof of drafting well, I'd say they would be scary in 2-3 years. Instead, I think they'll have lots of cap space to throw away next year

A 4th is pretty expensive for a punter but he's one of the best. I guess I'm ok with it. We definitely needed someone.

No idea why they didnt do that 2-3 months ago. They changed wording on what "active" means for the bonuses. And they gave him slightly more cashflow up front in the bonus...so at best, we're talking whether $1million gets paid today or in 2 months.

I'm trying to understand this post. Are you saying that anyone that disagrees with kap is an ignorant, racist pos? Or is it their specific words that you're taking issue with?

 

I wouldn't be surprised if Williams is cut. I'm actually pretty surprised he's still on the team. He was pretty awful last year, but it might just be more of a statement of their depth than him actually having enough left in the tank.

I don't think we can necessarily write off their drafting though. Their top picks this year (Coleman, Ogbah, Nassib) have looked good and even some of their deeper picks (Schobert, DeValve, Caldwell, Kindred, Drango) are in the rotation or next guys up on the depth chart. Of course, guys like Kessler and Coleman are much more long-term prospects and you have to think Higgins and Wright will make it as low-risk projects as well. Pretty good start here.

Honestly, different regime, but their 2015 draft hasn't been awful either. Six starters in year two (Shelton, Erving, Orchard, Cooper, Johnson and Campbell) and several with decent roles (Duke, Telfer... maybe Gaines). Definitely a young, frustrating team, but it should be interesting to watch them (hopefully) grow throughout the year.

 

So the Packers cut the rookie punter they brought in for training camp competition.

I can't believe we will have Tim Masthay as our punter again after last season. If it weren't for having the #1 punt coverage gunner in the game, his statistics would have been historically bad instead of just really, really bad. Dude was 25th in gross punt yards and 30th in punts inside the 20. Ugh. Feels like Masthay is the new Brad Jones: objectively terrible but the coaches refuse to replace him.

 

Scooby Wright was in the conversation for a first to second round pick before his injury. Browns could've gotten a tremendous steal there. Plus next year with two picks. Right now if they get Garrett and Fournette then thats a good set up. But they should trade down as much as possible instead.

 

Definitely a work-in-progress. He hasn't really done much beyond working with the third team, but I think they see a ton of promise in him.

As for next year's draft, I wouldn't at all be surprised if they end up targeting OT like Cam Robinson or Roderick Johnson to replace and/or groom to be the future LT. Fournette would certainly be awesome too, but they could really go a ton of different ways.

 

Yeah, he's a project for sure but i love his upside and a seventh round pick is nothing.

I like Robinson and Johnson quite a bit. Garrett/Watson plus trading down for Robinson/Johnson would be a great haul. And then spend a 2nd on a RB.

 

Fair. Imagine not squandering those 2012 and 2014 picks you had to work with.

This really bothers me. That team has the audacity to stand together on the sideline while their kicker is getting a soft pass cause the league is weak on evidence...

 

I haven't been able to watch any Carolina pre-season games but the whole punter thing has fans in total hysteria. Did Scrifes look bad before he got hurt?

 

The punter situation was awful. A 4th round pick might be a little bit of an overpayment but it's not like we drafted a rookie with the pick. We traded for a proven player who is one of the top punters in the league. The fans are in ultimate meltdown mode over a 4th round pick. It's not even close to something that deserves such a reaction.
