Somebody saying they won't drop out of the top 25, only because they are Tennessee, is a laughable and the take I'm referring to.

We should have been in the high teens after how we played, yeah? But after how we closed out last season, 9 was fair. Plus when you consider how many players we had coming back.

It's not an excuse, if it's literally a fact. I stated a fact.

Just never take preseason AP rankings seriously is the lesson here. (Does not apply to the Alabama's of the world)

I just love the justification when the only P5 team App St played last year was clemson who beat them by 30.

These stats have no weight if you aren't adjusting for schedule.

Tenn has a reasonable SEC schedule. I think if they can finally beat Gators, they can win the east. Passing game is my only concern with the Vols.

Well it was ugly, but the Gamecocks won against Vandy. I'll take it. Glad I got ripped for thinking this was a winnable game.

The O-line didn't look the greatest either given how undersized App St was in comparison.

moving on from Tenn vs App State I'm watching Oregon State at Minnesota trying to figure out why Kiper has a first round grade for Gophers QB Mitch Leindner

Tennessee's o-line has looked terrible for about six years now. Tonight was the worst they've looked in awhile, maybe since the Bama game last year. But I think they'll settle down, lot of returning players.

My worry is how vanilla the play calling looked, especially in regards to using Kamara. I realize there are certain games usually reserved for not revealing your hand or whatever, but when you're losing early, abandon that philosophy. (Which is why I think we finally saw Malone bomb pass.)

Wasn't the Malone pass a simple go-route? Not something worth saving.

Though it's interesting they completely abandoned attacking the seems after that.

completely agree with the vanilla play calling. looks like they are trying to hold off until V Tech or Alabama

They talked so damn much. From Webb to Mason, just yap yap yap... Feels good

as Vanilla as UT's playcalling was, App St's was unexcusable given they were the underdog, take some shots off PA.

My positive take away is Cam Sutton recovered from his huge blunder to make an absolutely amazing play with the interception and the huge play to send it to OT in the 4th. He also took over leadership very well with JRM ejected. Good to see.

Cam Sutton going first round for sure.

Assuming you're referring to my comment, I don't think they will drop out of the top 25 from tonights performance. Just that they shouldn't have been as high as they are currently, and if they started where they should have (17-22 range), then tonight's performance would have likely dropped them out. But because of the hype they recieved all summer, which I think most people agree was over the top, they sit at 9 and probably will only drop to around 15.

Honestly, App state isn't a bad team. They have a solid defense for sure (top 25 in the nation last year I think) but Tennessee just looked bad. And I think it goes to show how offseason hype can derail a season before it even begins...

Man, I thought this might be the year when Vandy finally beat SC. Gotta wait until next year, I guess!

Dobbs better be looking for Malone a lot more next week. Jason Croom should be back next week too, which will help quite a bit.

Need to focus on tackling/wrapping up this week. Where was Kongbo?

    A few positives:

Defense didn't allow a point in the last 38 mins of the game.

Found a way to win a close game late.

Have 9 days to prepare for Battle @ Bristol.

    We still won.

Maybe that kind of game is what our players needed. To be humbled. I'd rather us win a tough, close game like this than waltz all over an undermatched team and allow ourselves to think we are better than we really are. Good wake up call.

Ohio State lost to Va Tech a few years ago to start the season. At home. Still won the Nat'l Championship.

I think anyone writing off UT after this game is crazy because they're still 1-0 and super talented.
