Phoebe was always very open about how much he sucked

I mean, Phoebe *did* warn us with "Motion Sickness". It's a totally different experience listening to that song now that all this disgusting news is out.

I honestly thought everyone knew about this because of Phoebe. I’ve never listened to Ryan Adams in my life and I knew about it. People just don’t want to listen to women.

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

I don’t know much about Ryan Adams both as a musician and as a person, but any hardcore fanboys of his that I ever met always struck me as being the emotionally manipulative type, so there’s that.

    Fuck this guy.

  5. Zip It Chris

Be kind; everyone is on their own journey.

Brushing all Ryan Adams fans as emotionally manipulative is a pretty dumb thing to say, especially in the context of this thread and the 'not all' bullshit mentality.

I had no knowledge that song was about him until it was posted in this thread. Guessing that came out during an interview.

Which is why I specified fans of his that I’ve met. I’m not saying his fans as a whole. I apologize for making it seem like I was casting that net over his whole fanbase. That wasn’t my intention at all.

That's not a fair statement. It's not like she calls him out by name in the song so you can't expect everyone to know the fine details of the lyrics. I just found out Chelsea Hotel No 2 was about Janis Joplin. And even so in the articles I was reading yesterday before this all broke, she mostly just called him "interesting". She even mentioned sending him the song when she wrote it.

“We were back on good terms by then but after I sent him the song he didn’t talk to me for 24 hours. Then he sent me a sweet text saying ‘it’s a great song’,” she says. “Yes, interesting character…”

So while I did get a super weird vibe by what I was reading, it's not fair to call it out like that if she nor anyone else was at the time. I legitimately spent over an hour looking into the details of those lyrics, their relationship, and Phoebe's beginnings because I was interested in hearing the story before all this news broke out.

I'm very happy that Phoebe and all the women involved were able to finally have a public voice about this, but you can't blame people for not knowing based on song lyrics.

Damnit! I freaking loved his music.

I'm ok with an artist being an asshole. I'm not ok with them being a total piece of shit human being. I'll add him to my banned list that formally only included lostprophets.

Fucking idiot. He's always been a weirdo, but what on earth makes any anyone think that sexually harassing someone, especially a minor, is okay?

It was discussed on this website yet he still got attention and praise on this website despite that knowledge being out there in this community. That’s frustrating to say the least

Fair enough. I've never listened to Ryan Adams knowingly before besides when I listened to the song that I heard Motion Sickness referenced, and I definitely had not heard those discussions here or elsewhere. I'm sure there's plenty of people that had no idea.

I hope this article gives victims the courage to speak up against more powerful people in the industry.

All segments of entertainment have those who prey on women and underage children. I'd like to think we're at a turning point due to people like Bryan Singer (who has been repeatedly reported of doing heinous acts) being accused in major publications.

There is something sick and twisted in entertainment. It's no different than what you see in the Catholic Church (The Atlantic just published a great article)

Power hungry people are treating humans as objects to suit their own personal gain.

These issues can cause us to feel helpless, but we're on our way to a brighter future due to courageous people standing up and voicing their strife as they continue their lives after trauma.

As a survivor, dwelling has never done me any good. At 21 I started dealing with my past, and at 25 I can honestly say though the scar is there, I've made healthy decisions in gaining traction in taking control of something that wasn't my choice. I've also been fortunate enough to help others who have been through similar situations.

There's work to be done, and I'm thankful to these women leading the charge.

Also, all this makes me see his Taylor Swift 1989 cover album in a whole new, creepier light. Damn.

One can only hope that if damning evidence is found, he can be prosecuted. One small step in the right direction.

I never liked him after hearing that leaked vain and shallow voicemail he left on a journalist’s answering machine.

Also always just preferred artists like the War on Drugs/Kurt Vile over him anyways.

I can't believe I'm 2 days late so I can't stir as much shit by coming in and proudly saying: yes, actually, fuck all men. All of them are trash. And there's too many centuries of systemic oppression and abuse of women at the hands of men for me to really give a fuck about how they feel being lumped in.
I'm not sorry that as a man you have to reckon with the destruction your fellow man has brought to this world. Do better. Unpack. Literally constantly.
