About
From an early age music was magic to me. I listened nonstop. I collected music obsessively. My favorite music was stuff that was off the wall, off center, odd, weird, strange or just plain bizarre. One of my earliest memories is of a crazy yellow vinyl 45, 3 Stooges record I had, all about getting stuck on the record while they were recording.
Another key musical memory was when my mother gave me a copy of Perrey & Kingsley's In Sound From Way Out. I had never heard such otherworldly music before! The bleeps & bloops on this record started for me a lifelong love of electronic music.
I also loved rifling through the "cut out bins" in record stores for new discoveries. The recording industry was chaotic in the 60s. In an effort to cash in on the new "youth market" record companies signed a lot of crazy musicians. A lot of weird stuff got recorded that had no hope of gaining a mainstream audience. These unsold albums were dumped at cut rate prices in record stores in hopes they would disappear. I loved taking my $5 allowance to the record store and coming home with ten new albums I knew nothing about. It was a real musical journey.
Another aspect of my life is that I have always been driven to create. I am a published author, have sold artwork at fairs & festivals. acted, directed, run a theatre company, done readings & performance at, even programmed five internet radio stations. My one regret creatively was that I couldn't make music. In 2020 I vowed to change that. I bought a used synthesizer, enrolled in a music theory course, and set up a home recording studio. The result is X Perry Mental, new instrumental, electronic & spoken word weirdness.- Gender:
