I think I just need to spend more time in some southern states, because this is the image I've always had of the south.

its oddly a "marketable" image, minus the racism. lots of movies portray that and such. i can assure thats not happening in a city like Charlotte or Wilmington haha.

To be honest, I'm assuming "the south" probably isn't too different from rural Wisconsin, where I grew up. My area's actually pretty socially conscious though despite the complete lack of diversity. It's definitely not as bad as most of the state.

oh yeah the more rural areas and even some of the beach towns where i live can be kind of, stereotypical in their way of portraying the south. but theres just as much good to outweigh the bad, like any state i suppose.

I'm from metro ATL and I wouldn't dream of leaving here. It's a lot of southern hospitality combined with diversity and tolerance because EVERYONE looks and thinks differently. Not to say discrimination doesn't exist as it does everywhere, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's significantly less here than most places in the US. I love it.

That said, you get outside the metro area and it can be a different story.

entirely depends on what you think "better" guitar playing is

So tell me something awesome Supporter

To me "better" guitar playing is not only being fundamentally good at the instrument but being able to get the best sounds out of it

@Randall Mentzos said it in the NFL thread (sorry, the city thread) and I think he's entirely right, being technically sound doesn't necessarily make you a better guitarist/musician, but it's easier to make the music you want to make and make it good when you have that technical ability/knowledge at your disposal

As someone who was born and raised in Indiana, I can confirm this. I left when I went to college and I have never looked back haha

I grew up in a fairly conservative area in Indiana and most people I know do not like Mike Pence. A saw a few FB statuses that even said, "Now the rest of the world can see what we've had to deal with." when it was announced that he was Trump's VP pick. Obviously one town doesn't speak for the whole state, but not all hoosiers are proud of Pence haha.

At my wife's request, I listened to Chris Gethard's Spotify playlist. I had never heard of Mal Blum until today, but her song on the playlist is one of the worst things I've heard in a long time.

Sleeping Bear Dunes/Traverse City is an area I google maps a lot. Probably will be the first part of the Midwest I visit when i get that way. Seems amazing in the summertime.

Everything I hear about Indiana is crazy backwards. I have a friend who lives in Shelbyville who constantly updates facebook on the racist ornery old people he deals with at work haha. Sounds like all the bad and none of the good of living in Florida.

Controversial opinion: Florida is middle of the pack in terms of US states. You can honestly do a lot worse.

Just live somewhere older and not new development really. The new development in FL cities is all terrible, hot, fake grass lawn, mosquito infested pine tree suburbs. But there's definitely cool arts-centric communities with beautiful neighborhoods in the cities. And living by water is more expensive basically everywhere else except here.

I'm just saying, I'm a server at a restaurant, but I live in a nice house, and go to the beach whenever I want. I personally couldn't do this most places. Unless I wanted to live way out in the middle of nowhere and not push my band. Trying to live in Annapolis MD off my income and get the same waterside experience was a nightmare.
