What's crazy is that...i really really like the album. I've been working and listening all day. I even read some reviews (most are "meh") and that frustrates me because I don't consider this album "meh" at all.

I'm a less is more guy...thats all I'm getting at.

I'm a big NWAF guy, and would have loved to have heard that album with this production. I'm going to give this a second spin on the commute home and hopefully the sun rays will activate it's hidden infectiousness.

I guess all NFG had to do was add some steel drums to their songs and people will be blown away.

You're going to be really mad in a second. So I'm not too familiar with the guy but I took a quick wiki look at what he's worked on.... how do I say this without you not blowing a gasket haha umm...i hate all of it.

I don't necessarily hate him, I mean, I have no idea how he influenced any of those bands or albums but the bands he did work with.. not a fan of literally any of them (outside of mxpx, and even that I didn't care for secret weapon)

Like growing up, anberlin was always that band I used to shit on (as a grown up I simply say, not a fan). Now again thats not on him...maybe he did the best he could with what he had to work with.

Completely inaccurate and reductive, but thanks for playing.

But that's it. Critique over. I'm happy were still in an era where we can analyze albums. For one of my favorite bands, at this point, all I need are like 3 new songs to add to the library and I'm a happy guy. This album has easily done that.

Songs that I wrote off initially have already grown. This album has top 5 potential written all over it

Lol ok, can I play again? For the record, I love the song. I'm curious what you hear in this song that is so far above all NFG songs since Sticks and Stones? Is it the experimentation? Is the melody amazing? Lyrics? Musicianship? Details please?

You don't think the calypso island song is different for the nfg catalogue?

Also, I'm glad Ian got to shine on bass a lot on this album. He's got some really fun parts throughout the album.

Also also, the little guitar riff at 2:38 of Cheapest Thrill leading into the final chorus is awesome.

I totally do! It's a great song to add to their discography. Does that make it their BEST song?

Ah! I only caught half the convo whoops haha. Best song is way too hard to discuss. Maybe "it's my favorite song since sticks and stones because (fill in blank)" would be more apt but... It's all good.

I understand it being people's favorite. It's a fun song. I just don't hear anything other than the Island sound that makes its all that special.

Edit: And once more, for the record, I love this band. I love this album. I love their whole discography.

Theres a couple interviews out there where Chad/They talk in length about it. They really wanted to make something fun and not be afraid of trying new things with their sound i.e. more synth, keys, drums, and making it sound more full. That and they really went into making this album to get a reaction from fans. Good or Bad reactions.

That's cool to hear. They did a great job of pulling that off.
