It's weird. Like I get they switched styles a bit, but no band can keep writing punk albums and not eventually get to this same old same old sound (I wish MxPx had changed things up at some point a bit more, for example).. But the biggest complaint I see is Chris's voice changing, but I think he's a way better vocalist now. Better range, tone, versatility and control.

i loved the last album if you couldn't tell. It was the most fun album they had in over a decade.

Oh yeah, the self-titled is fun as hell. One of my go to albums in the summer. (and recently for some reason)

admittedly i had trouble with his voice as well, but only from daybreak onwards, and i've come around to it. i don't necessarily think his vocals are better and i definitely don't think they're more versatile, but yeah he does sing in a way that seems more proficient. hits notes he wasn't able to before (or seemed like he couldn't) and is able to do more with it. I've definitely come around. still don't necessarily think the post sound the alarm albums are better than pre sound the alarm BUT i love all of them so it's like even my least favorite i really enjoy

First time I listened to Sound the Alarm I was like "WTF" re: Chris's voice. I did not like it at all. But the album was so damn good that through sheer volume of relentless listening I came around. I still prefer his old singing style but I've come to love the way his new singing style complements the way the band's overall sound has evolved.

The anticipation is killing me. Anybody know of any updates or news or rumors about a new StD record? I remember a while back Chris said they were wanting to get into the studio in December but haven't seen anything. Also Chris has been strangely quiet on Twitter lately (if you know his Twitter... he was posting excessively for a while).

The plan was for this year I believe, if they're quiet I'd just assume they're working on it

It looks like Arun has been really busy with other stuff (he's touring with Craig Finn right now) , so I'm not sure much progress has been made unless Chris is doing it himself.

They're playing a couple of festivals. It's not much, but it's still activity!

I tried to learn a couple of In Reverie songs and like. Did Chris use every chord imaginable on that album?? Christ, no wonder the rhythm guitar is so melodic. I mean it, every chord.

I wish I understood Wednesday the Third more because that guitar part is fucking beautiful.
Also my top two is no longer IR and STA but IR and SWYA. They're both number one. The best

Yeah and it's not like complex for the sake of it or something, like all those chords flow into the next one perfectly, subtle changes till you're somewhere different than where you started. What a crazy record

    Maybe so, maybe not.

That flurry of chord changes after the initial verse of "Tomorrow Too Late" legit turns my hand into a fucking knot.

  22. I'm legitimately curious if there was certain amounts of drug use when writing that album

As someone who doesn't play guitar, I had no idea In Reverie was that great. One of my favorite STD albums.

right? It's insane and it was honestly so low-key to me until I tried learning these songs. It doesn't sound like he's doing all that on the surface AND YET. After this I feel comfortable saying Chris is an underated guitar player in this scene.

I think when people think about the whole Beatles thing he talked about irt IR, they attribute that influence to the vocals and forget that the Beatles had some pretty crazy chord changes and progressions too

That being said I would not be surprised one bit if I was wrong here

  25. However, can you attribute more of the songwriting on IR to Chris, or would it be more David?
