I've been informed by someone who doesn't want to get into it that the laws of the game don't discriminate between a pass and a shot so who even knows. Alexi Lalas says because it wasn't going towards goal but across the field, but I don't know.

I'm sad my team is out and having the April from hell. Hope we can recover a little bit of form (Messi is in his longest scoreless run since 2008) and finish strong. A brace of titles isn't a bad season. Still a lot to play for (and we have arguably the easiest run in of the three teams in the La Liga race).

I would like to direct you all to the best post of the night that's been criminally underappreciated.

It's definitely a hit to the face but doesn't look deliberate. It just looks like he's trying to overpower him to get to the cross.

After seeing that incident again, I have to admit that this could have been very well a red.

I was going to mention that in the FIFA rules it only says this...

    Sending-off offences
A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off if he commits any of the following seven offences:
    ...
    • denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
    ...

    The actual law.

It doesn't have to go towards the goal just like it doesn't have to be the last man commiting the foul. The rule is "denying a clear goalscoring opportunity" and after seeing the replay I have to agree that Iniesta just did that.

Be sure to drink your Ovaltine.

    Griezmann is so much money.

Yo there's plenty of salt against Madrid too. It's funny. I enjoy it from both sides

Regardless, Atletico de Madrid defeated Barcelona tonight. Rightfully nullified Messi who never got the ball at his feet running forward, frustrated Neymar out of the game, and suffocated Suarez. I think Real and Bayern could carve them apart with their pace, which Barca lack at times.

I mean I don't want them too but this all stinks of Chelsea winning it a few years back.

So happy about tonight, the bar I went to had the game on so I caught the second half.

Referee was awful once again. Suarez should have gotten a red, AGAIN. Summed up the match when I said this to a delusional Barca fan on reddit who thought they deserved to go through:

"You were a bit shit mate. And I'm an Arsenal fan, I know what shit looks like, I pay a lot of money to see it every weekend.

You were outplayed every second the tie was 11 vs 11. Your forwards were absolutely absent, and resorted to petulance and violence to have an impact. Suarez should have been sent off both games. Neymar should have been sent off this game. Iniesta should have been sent off this game. Messi might as well have watched the match on TV, he was so invisible (although he did do a nice piece of defending). Meanwhile, your defence was poor for crucial points in the game.

Just admit, you had a bad night and move on. Teams have them, and you're still a frighteningly good team, just out of form."

I have no problem with an Atletico player getting elbowed in the face if we want to start on people tasting their own medicine

That Castillo finish is great, literally just high enough to beat the keeper.

Castillo chipped the keeper again in the 2nd half but hit the post. Hopefully he's starting to find his form this season.
