Musically and lyrically IAAN is much worse than probably anything since YFW, it's just a mediocre song.

 

if you like demos sounding brand new you should check out Young and Heartless, their newest record gives me a ton of that era of Brand New era vibes

 

I was not a fan of Deja when it came out mainly due to how much I disliked Your Favorite Weapon (which I still dislike) so I never gave it a shot outside the couple singles (which I also didn't like) they put out.

I didn't come around to Brand New until Limousine. I've witnessed domestic abuse due to drinking and I've lost more loved ones to drunk driving / alcoholism than any person ever should. All the rage I felt inside, and the words I couldn't articulate on my own, I think were expressed perfectly in the storytelling and music composition of that song. I still have trouble even swallowing while hearing that song without feeling a knot of rage build up. I'll love Jesse forever for that song and I wish I could express to him how much it means to me and how much is has impacted me.

 

I like I am a nightmare. I don't think it touches their best, but it's a good enough song imo

 

I like IAAN as a standalone single, but probably wouldn't want a whole album in that style (who am I kidding, I'll take whatever I can get)

Good to see daisy getting some (!) love. Glad we haven't broken into album rankings yet (I give it a week). Still waiting on a pogolith lyric book for Daisy. I need to know exactly how darkly the dark hand met his end.

 

IAAN gets a hated on too much.

IAAN is an enjoyable song that is nowhere near the standards or complexity, whether in lyrics or sound that I hope for from a Brand New song.

I like Daisy(the song) and maybe You Stole. That's it. Devils I like every single song. Every damn song. I think the same goes for Deja, only to a lesser degree.

Hello! I still exist in some capacity, I swear! It's just that, as I only tend to use the app, notifications from the supporter thread shove ones this thread way down and I don't see them? I've not had them from here in ages actually - did wonder what had happened with that the other day actually.

Nothing much is happening with me other than staving off the non-existent LP5 jokes here and on Reddit haha! As I said in the supporter thread not long back, I find it a bit awkward now showing any excitement for LP5, because everybody seems so downcast or jokey. And that's fine, I just don't want to come across like the obsessive I did way back on here and get slammed for it! I'm a sensitive little snowflake.

Anyway I clearly have a lot to catch up on here. I'll be in LA for a week as of tomorrow, so be prepared for Brand New album announcements while I'm on the flight back and forth haha. Hope all is good here...I'll worm my way back in :)

 

Well...now I see why you're so wrong about IAAN

I was never obsessed with "complexity", if a rock song has a catchy vibe to it with lyrics I can relate to but aren't TOO straightforward (I can handle some cheese tho)and a singer who's voice I enjoy and/or is 'unique' sounding, I can get into it. IAAN hit all of those for me.

I already said it but it reminds me of a mixture of Deja/Demos in tone and lyrics and etc

 

I will never slam you for being excited for lp 5, I'm the same way. No matter how unlikely it is, as long as there is a chance I'll be excited for it

 

There will probably come a day when Brand New officially tell us there will be no LP5...

...then it'll drop a month later.

 

I don't get the whole "it's unlikely we will get an lp5" crowd. Sure they haven't delivered it when they have been in the studio in the past. But so far we know their intention is to make it, and they have spent considerable time this year working on it. Be optimistic friends!

 

This exactly. It's daft to suggest otherwise. Yeah we've waited a damn while but this is the most active they've been in so long in regards to recording.
