I still remembered having to force myself to like UON, but to this day I think it is suuuch a lackluster of a single.

I really love The Cure and The Smiths, so the fact that I get two songs that reference one of them makes me appreciate the songs that much more.

I don't want to rank, but I think California is a much stronger album than Neighborhoods. I think Tom's writing has went to shit, and because of that, Neighborhoods' lows are much lower than California's lows. I also think Mark is the superior song writer between him and Tom, so a much more inspired Mark on California has better songs on there than he does on Neighborhoods. But not to discredit Neighborhoods at all. It has some real gems, and so does DED, but Mark and Tom never really found that spark again after Untitled to me at least. I think the closest they ever came to that was After Midnight.

But yeah, that's why I think California is better, even with the na na na's sprinkled in there. Haha

Agree, I will pick California over Neighborhoods/DED every time even though I like a lot about the latter

Neighborhoods does a good job of being dark and gritty and California does a great job of being energetic and punkish. Is that the right word? Haha

yeah I think they do too. I think it has something to do with how Jerry Finn was always their guy, and it took them a while to feel like they had someone who was just a buddy with them in the studio again, and they supposedly feel that way with him. so I can understand that. sometimes I think it makes sense to stick with the guy you like and are comfortable with, but sometimes it's good to get out of the box too, so we'll see. and yeah, I definitely still enjoy Mark on the track, it's just that everything surrounding him on the track is superior.
