Dredg instantly comes to mind. They've been silent for years

 

Black Map are excellent tho, I don't remember which member it features but I know it also has an ex Far member. They sound a lot like Thrice when they were still playing post hardcore.

 

dredg were on a steady decline by the time of their hiatus/disappearance, IMO. El Cielo will always be one of my favorite records of its era, and Catch was pretty great too, but it may have been time to put it to bed by the end.

 

It's the guitar player from Dredg. I'm a big fan of Black Map. Some of their songs are even reminiscent of Dredg("Stranger" especially comes to mind)

 

I wouldn't say "steady decline" is accurate. They put out one bad record

 

Wowwwww I had no idea. That's amazing, hopefully they speak up eventually.

 

Yep they became more and more active on Facebook since the 10th anniversary of Failure On. They started selling merch again, had new tshirts and stuff in 2015. Then they said "Keep your eyes open for 2016, it's gonna be a good one" or something similar but nothing happened unfortunately, maybe there were some timing issues. We'll see.

My #1 would have to be Fair to Midland. The lead singer was legit one of the best vocalists in all of modern rock, and also their primary songwriter. He just dropped off the face of the earth after the band fell apart, which is tragic, especially as he had recorded numerous solo demos that sounded incredible.

Oceansize were one of my favorite bands of all time, but at least most of the members have continued on with other projects.

I guess The Mars Volta belong here, too, even if those guys are doing ATDI stuff together again.

dredg were just mentioned above, and I loved them, but no longer had a lot of faith in their future by the time they stopped making music. The last record was universally panned, but even The Pariah... before it has not held up well for me.

 

Empires. One of my favorite bands ever and I haven't heard a single word from them or about them in about two years, but I still listen to them regularly.

Yup, it'll be two years in July. They are (were?) fantastic. I don't think they're done, but they've been radio silent for a long time now. I'm partial to them because they're local, but damn, I feel they should have been bigger with their most recent album than they were.

 

Hellogoodbye, hands down. They have done a select few random shows in Cali, but haven't done a full blown tour since 2014. I need more of them in my life.

This was what surprised me. This December and Illuminate were so loved around AP.net that I figured they could do no wrong, but absolutely nothing they came back with resonated at all.

I mean, that's a bit of a stretch. He was legit one of the best vocalists in all of goat rock. Cool band but his voice was downright weird.

Their most recent album Everything is Debatable was so much better than it was received. "Swear You're In Love" is the best track Forrest ever wrote.

 

That album is gold. They're my all time favorite band, so I am slightly bias, but it's a great record. Forrest put out a new song a few months ago, but it was just a quick put together for ACLU proceeds. I am hoping for a legit album soon, especially since he still has never announced a breakup.

 

Total blasphemy, haha. Maynard was my favorite rock singer for forever, but since discovering FTM, I've put Darroh right up there with him and still can't decide who takes the crown. If you listen to Fables without knowing, you'd think they have 2 or 3 different vocalists with all being great... his range (in several respects) is just unreal.

 

Not sure they've been mentioned yet but right around when I first started reading AP.net and Alternative Press, two bands I enjoyed a lot were Umbrellas and This Day & Age.

Umbrellas had a solid self-titled album, a decent follow-up in Illuminaire and even their Beach Front Property EP was nice, and then they just disappeared into thin air.

TDAA also had a solid first album in Always Leave the Ground, and then had quite the artistic departure for The Bell and The Hammer, which I thought sounded great. Then they too just vanished. I guess most of the rest of the band became The Reign of Kindo, and the singer went and did his own thing.

Dang, have not heard the name Brightwood in so long. I'm from Portland so I used to see them at local shows or as openers quite a bit, but haven't heard of them in forever!

Texas Is The Reason

Transit and Texas had pretty clear endings though, so I guess they did not "fade away".

 

Hit the shuffle and Louis XIV came on, those guys definitely faded away. Really liked them.
