  5. I saw all ages from middle school to old people at their shows this summer. Sure seemed to be appealing to a huge swath based on that.

Very much so. You'd be surprised by how many young fans Blink has. Hell, when i saw them live over the summer, the majority of my section was late high schoolers / college kids.

And that's why you always leave a note.

Man, I'm so pumped for these guys. They seem to be in SUCH a good space. While this certainly isn't their best song (and most of California was better than this) it's sooooo much fun and that's what I like my Blink to be. Wish they were able to revise their lineup sooner!

I guess that's the point I was trying to make in a roundabout way. I can't imagine being in a band for over 25 years and not evolving past a certain time frame in the band's history. I would be more interested in making music I was passionate about than just referring back to a past formula for the sake of fans. That's not to say those dudes aren't enjoying themselves. I know I know, I'm talking about blink-182 here, not exactly Radiohead, but I'm just giving my thoughts about them overall. Sterile, bland, poor songwriting--that's all I've really heard in their new songs.

It might be different because I'm in San Diego but yeah I'd say the majority of the people I see at their concerts were either very young or not even born yet when the band first blew up.

That's the thing though - everyone always says "I can't imagine not evolving"...but look at most of the bands that have lasted more than 20 years and how much they have evolved....Blink-182, NoFX, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Lagwagon - pretty much playing they same style of music today....hell even The Rolling Stones released an album of blues covers that sounded like it was recorded in 1966.

I'm not sure....you heard that new Descendents record? There's a song about how he can't eat junk food anymore. Love it.

I don't disagree with you at all. I wonder how many of those bands genuinely enjoy the music they make currently or if in some way it's kind of a cage for them. They love making music but if they stray too far they'll lose their fanbase. Take face to face, for example. One of the seminal punk bands of the 90s, a lot of success in the scene, then they released Ignorance Is Bliss (an incredible album) and their fans turned their backs on them. I think nostalgia plays a bigger role in punk music than most people might think. We want these bands to sound like they always have so we can feel the things we felt when we first discovered them.

I'm sure it was an intentional nod. Pinhead Gunpowder does my favorite cover of it.

  20. But Blink-182, NoFX, Less Than Jake and Lagwagon have all released great albums in the past 5 years. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
