Yeah, I feel like people are having fun. I didn't realize I had to run my thread ideas by Chaplain to make sure he wasn't mad beefin.

I think part of the issue is that a lot of the opinions are being stated with very condescending and close minded tones

 

That's assuming Taylor Swift has good songs lol

all of the "hey i don't like ~insert rap artist here because it's not pop punk" or "hey this ~insert big famous indie or pop artist here because it's not pop punk" is sort of ridiculous

 

Yeah, this isn't great. I've tried to avoid this with my own posts, but I recognize that I may have contributed to it.

 

Maybe towards the artists that people don't like, but I don't see anyone putting anyone here down for their opinions.

 

like hey this thread would work with something like that post about singularity being mae's best record i saw recently, not like "Lol i don't like this artist that others like lol!!!"

 

Don't think this is necessarily fair, pop punk is getting a lot of shit here as well.

 

It seems like, in general, people are having a pretty good time expressing opinions that may otherwise be looked down upon among the site. If a moderator or staff member wants to look it over and decide if this thread is appropriate I would welcome it.

being like "yeah ed sheeran or taylor swift sucks!!" or "i don't get kanye west he's not a nice dude" is ridiculously unproductive in so many ways

The Dear Hunter's "Act IV" was the most underrated album of last year. Pretty harmless opinion, but seeing how little attention that album got I'd say it falls under "unpopular".

edit: Been listening to it a lot the last couple days and I don't know how I didn't include it in my top 5 of the year. Incredible stuff.

 

To play devil's advocate, I kind of think the point of this new site is that opinions don't get looked down on at all. That said, I support this thread being a thing as long as people are reasonable in how they're talking about their opinions.

 

There's nothing wrong with having an unpopular opinion. But just posting "yeah this is trash" is one of the things I know Jason wanted to avoid here. Also there have been unnecessary additions to comments that I think have made a lot of people uncomfortable

 

And I got MAJOR shit for it too. haha.

 

You could have a different opinion then me. That's fine. But your opinion is only as good as your justification and ability to rationalize it. So if your explanation is maybe misinformed or uninformed, it warrants some conversation.

 

I apologize, I haven't seen anything that would be cause to make someone uncomfortable. Can you give an example?
