I am so dumb. I just now got this.

 

I told my boss her office smelled like delish food and she said she went to the taco truck. I said my rm went there last night and gave me his number but it's his cell and I felt weird calling his cell to place an order. I was then like "well maybe I can call at midnight for some Mexican food hmm" and she started saying how he's cute and I'm cute and she's been a good match maker in the past and I was like

....wut how did we get here.

 

Ok. I picked the brain of the person who doesn't believe in divorce and it was just bananas. Like I cannot even begin to understand it. Ultimately it came down to her thinking if you just try hard enough you can make it through and be stronger (even if one party wants to leave. You just have to try harder) and I'm like naw man sometimes it doesn't work out like you can try but sometimes you realize it's not gonna work and take the L. Sometimes ppl just change and things happen. I remember thinking anything could be worked out when I was 12 and my parents were separated and I wanted them to be together, but thinking that way now as an adult? Eh.

Like I do think marriage is serious and ppl should work at it, but her insistence that you like must be locked into it cause it's a contract and there should be consequences for breaking it, I was like now sis........

 

Some people, like my parents, take their vows literally. That's why mine "don't believe in divorce".

 

I take marriage vows super serious which is I think why marriage freaks me out? Like that stuff is SRS BUSINESS so I'm like nawww. And I told her like my parents did try and they tried for too long and it was traumatizing and confusing for me as a kid. And she was just like "well they clearly didn't try hard enough" and I was like... oh thanks lol not rude at all

I do think it's where experiences come into play. She says her grandparents and parents and aunts and uncles all have "successful" (if success is defined by longevity) marriages, whereas like everyone in my fam is divorced. So her experience is seeing people stay together, whereas mine is like naw just recognize u made a mistake and take the loss lol

 

Til death do us part is one scary as fuck commitment haha

I have thoughts on it but I think I'm gonna wait until my more serious character reboot

 

I'm not against marriage. When I was a kid I was super stoked to get married to the girl of my dreams and start a family, and now I'm rethinking all that. Towards the end my ex was actually pushing me to propose to her which would have been a fucking disaster, mainly because she was jealous her best friend just got married and her sister got engaged. I've got a feeling she'll be engaged or married to someone else within a year or two.

 

I wouldn't rule out marriage like I'm not opposed to it, it just freaks me out. Like watching my parents divorce, I know that outcome is a possibility and I don't wanna ever go thru it. Idk. I know unmarried relationships can be difficult too but idk idk

 

I think the biggest reason I'm turned off from the full commitment to marriage is the legal hassle you have to go through when/if you divorce. Changing bank account info, life insurance beneficiaries, health/car/home insurance and utility primary account holder info, name changing, etc etc etc. I dont wanna spend 2 hours on hold with Verizon to get an ex's account removed from mine or have to go file paperwork at the bank on my lunch break. Pass.

 

I don't mind committing. With the idea of marriage tho, I'm pretty nonchalant. If it happens, it's cool. If it doesn't, i'm good. My parents would love it if i did tho.

 

I just don't understand how people afford weddings and my wife ( very nice) taking my last name would feel wrong to me damn patriarchy

 

Yeah I'm 100% down with committing to one person for the rest of my life, that idea is very appealing to me. Marriage doesn't feel necessary for that.

 

I'm down with someone wanting to commit to me forever.

 

Catering is a huge hussle.

 

I'm marrying my girlfriend for sure

 

I do think there are people who quit too easily and don't understand working at things, so there's a middle ground. But if you KNOW you have worked at it and still feel this way...? Eep.

 

I have no desire for someone to take my name. But my girlfriend is adamant about it if we ever do get married, so there you are.
