Couldn't agree more I was stuck on this track on my first play through.

I get the vibe this is a grower. On my first listen I wasn't as excited as I'd hoped to be halfway through the album, but as soon as it was over I was thinking that I need to listen to it again ASAP.

And of course I've finished second play through and am immediately enjoying it more. I'm so happy Acceptance is back!

These guys signed to rise and I've seen literally no promotion? Am I missing something?

I listened twice today, early and late in the day. I just can't get into this for some reason. I liked the singles ("Haunted" more so) but this just isn't what I expected. I'm not one of those guys that says "I want Phantoms Pt. 2", but I definitely miss the beautiful rhythm guitars they had. The drum mix was off on some songs. I don't know if it's with how they were recorded or maybe volume levels of each drum piece, but I'm not digging the drums. I like synth stuff, but it was overused here. There are way too many 80's themes in the music. I like when it's done the right way (The 1975's latest LP), but some of this sounded like a cheesy 80's soundtrack. The part I love the most here is the lyrics actually. There's some really great writing on this record. Maybe it's a grower and I'll revisit it throughout the weekend.

  5. I think the production is perfect, Aaron Sprinkle knows what he's doing and he was obviously the right choice for Acceptance at this point in their career.

This album is unbelievable. They just know how to write music.

  7. I tend to get what you're saying regarding the rhythm guitar work. I guess it just shows how much their skills as songwriters have evolved over the past decade.

This record was worth the wait for me. The stand out tracks right now are 73, Fire and Rain and Haunted. Thank you, Acceptance!

So keen to listen to this. Seeing them in March with Taking Back Sunday, can't wait!

Sounds like they've been listening to a lot of U2 in the past 12 years haha. Especially '73'.

Enjoyed it on first play through, going back now.

    Hey Jason Tate,
During your interview with J. vena last summer you guys discussed a song called Roll Tide. Did it get retitled or cut from the album?

I'm guessing this is "Fire and Rain" because of the description of the song, but I could be wrong.

I'm in the mixed review camp, leaning toward good. I LOVE that it exists, and I'm not a person who necessarily wanted 2 Fast 2 Phantoms. I think it'll grow on me. But for all the praise for the lyrics, all I can hear is Jason singing repeated phrases - I don't know how many times he says "come over" or "come closer" (or a variant) on the record, but it feels like a LOT.

I also agree that the drums are too quiet. "Sunset," for example, could be an absolute barnburner with a bigger drum track. Not more drums - just a louder snare. Even the snare on "Haunted" would work better.

I really like the "first time is the last time" callback in Come Closer though. And "Fire and Rain," "73" and the title track all make my vinyl purchase worth it.

I'm probably nitpicking, because as I think about all these "faults," this is still one of the better records I've heard all year. And from a band that hasn't made music in more than a decade.

I think you're probably right about Fire and Rain.

Only half way through the album so far, but I'm really digging it but I can't tell whether that's because I've waited 12 years for new Acceptance or whether it's a warranted love that because it's deserved.

We Can Escape and Fire and Rain are killer. 73 is my new favorite Anberlin song - has vibes of Take Me As You Found Me.

  15. "Roll Tide" was the original title of "Colliding by Design."

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

I really hope we get another album from them after this one. This one has so many great things about it, but I think they can go even further.

I've listened to this nonstop at work for about 5hrs straight. I haven't found a weak song that I can say I skip over. This album is great

I've seen them promoted pretty heavily, especially in Alternative Press. They also did things with Billboard. That's pretty solid for a band that won't be touring much...

Also these are my three takes from this album.

    1. This album sounds straight like it came out of the 80's. I swear I'm hearing major Miami Vice influences lol
    2. I feel like they over produced and tinkered way to much with the songs. Some of these songs would be perfect simple arrangements and I can imagine even brilliant acoustic.
    3. I'm enjoying the back half of the album more then the beginning. It was the opposite for Phantoms.

Am I the only person who hears heavy, heavy Anberlin vibes from this? I get they share a producer and guitar player and that's to be expected, but this whole record feels like a mix of the non-heavy elements of 'Dark is the Way' and 'Devotion.'

At any rate, I really couldn't love it more - the record is everything I could have wanted from them at this point in my life.

  21. It tends to feel like a mix of Acceptance and late Anberlin, yep. Especially because of the 80's vibes.

"Phantoms" is a top 10 record for me. I honestly wasn't too excited for this after the first few songs, but after a few listens.

    I love it.

After a couple days with this, I'm not sure it'll top Phantoms long term, but 'We Can Escape' is probably my favorite song they've ever written.
