disagree. teen dream, bloom, depression cherry, and thank your lucky stars are all pretty different from each other. they fall in that middle ground i was talking about

yeah im talking about bands like new found glory and bayside and less than jake and bands that have like stretches of 3 or 4 or more albums where they do absolutely nothing new

I'd say Weezer and Blink 182 kinda, there's some different kinds of songs obviously but it's a distinctive sound, Arcade Fire maybe too

every arcade fire album is wildly different from the last. reflektor was probably their biggest stylistic leap yet, and i dont even like reflektor

Does A Day To Remember change their sound? I've never listened.

sorry bud but i hear nothing that separates killing time, cult, and vacancy from the rest of their discog, or each other. the first four albums are all pretty distinct but the last three are just same ol same ol. when you put out three career spanning albums in a row its time to do something new

but they arent the same though. like, at all. Cult I'll give you as being kind of meh but Vacancy and KT have all sorts of different things going on like tempo and time signature changes, different tunings and use of chord progressions, and just different influences going on. but to each their own

yeah Reflektor didn't click at all with me and The Suburbs didn't really have much impact on me, I remember Funeral and Neon Bible being similar but it's been awhile (yes I know this is a Staind song)

tempo and time signature changes have been baysides thing since literally the first album. well more key changes than time sigs but still thats not new for them at all

every The Ramones song sounds the same pretty much but they're all amazing

  20. I think that with exception of Shudder and Cult, Bayside have made small tweaks on each record. For the most part though, those tweaks aren't large enough to really warrant saying they're "trying new things", at least in the context of the discussion that's being had. They're trying new techniques but they're not really doing anything new with their sound, if that makes sense

If it ain't broke don't fix it etc etc

Also "Danny Says" is a perfect song

id say shudder is a record where they made a tweak tbh, coming off walking wounded its a little more loose than its predecessor. killing time is a career spanning album, touching on all styles of their previous works, and then so is cult, and then so is vacancy, the only difference is cult adds in KT vibes and vacancy adds in cult vibes. if this makes any sense. to my ears, they keep making the same sounding songs. maybe my ears are just off

The only records I feel truly stick out in their discog are Sirens and Walking Wounded

What I've noticed is that some of my favorite bands kinda tiptoe between their signature sound and experimenting a little bit. Bands that come to mind are Circa Survive, Jimmy Eat World, The National, Deftones, even Sigur Rós. I feel like they all have this easily identifiable sound, respectively, but they switch things up at least a little bit with each album and it keeps things exciting.
