This game is ridiculous, neither team knows how the fuck to defend.

3 minutes added time, what a joke. Isn't the rule 30 seconds per substitute at least? Thats the 3 minutes right there, let alone all the goals and the celebrations.

The first half had no stoppage time at all.

Is this the best night of CL football in a while? Both games were incredible (I had them on seperate screens but was mainly watching Bayer Leverkusen - Atletico).

How Leverkusen even got two goals I don't know, Atletico dominated them. Hopefully Monaco can make those away goals count in the next leg against City though.

These rumors of Rooney to China seem to be picking up.

Will be strange as hell when he does leave, whether it be now or in the summer.

Hard to say he hasn't overstayed his welcome, but it's impossible to deny the career he's had with us.

His status as a United legend is set in stone, whether I or anyone else likes it or not.

With that in mind, I'll focus on all the positives when looking back at his time with us.

Wonder which team he'd go to, only 7 teams have an available foreign player spot.

Seems mad for him to go to China. He's made such an astronomical amount of money, having been on massive wages at United for such a long time. What's the point?

I wonder if any Prem teams (or other big European clubs) would take a punt on him these days.

Uh more money? It's a job and he's being offered over double what he's on. He would be mad not to take it. I would say the only other team he wants to play for is Everton, who couldn't afford him without dumping their best players

As an aside, if he does go to China apparently we will make a profit on him lol. 13 years, top goalscorer and selling him for more than we bought him. Funny.

How many seasons will they actually pay him that much though? Also, given how wealthy he must already be, is it really going to be worth him uprooting his family (his kids aren't that old are they?) to cash in one last time? I don't think it's that mad to turn it down at all.

two seasons in china and he's earned what he would at Man United for four seasons. Nevermind Everton for six seasons. that's nothing to shake at. I'm sure he has crafty enough lawyers to insert breakout clauses if he hates it. simple fact is he's just not good enough for the premier league any more. I think and hope he knows this. going to everton would hamstring them, other than them who would he go to? who would want him?

I guess it depends whether he's really that fussed about still playing. Maybe he'll go to China to fund his retirement. I wouldn't be too surprised to see him go to Italy or the US. But, he's been around for ages. He broke through so young that he probably has played as many years at the top as most players who retire at 34-35.

Sadly, we have seen his money grabbing tendencies before, so I expect he'll be off to China. Which is basically the footballing equivalent of the glue factory.

Let's not pretend that the MLS wasn't one of the original money grabbing destinations. That's changed since then, but Beckham among others didn't go there for the love of the game. I mean money grabbing is pretty much the biggest part of any job. Most people would choose whoever is paying the most. I mean he could sit on the sidelines with us for the next 2 years and collect half a mil a week doing nothing if he wanted to. China is best of both. He can fully retire in 2/3 years earning the money he'll make up to 36/7 at another club.

Seems like good financial sense to me. We could be idealists and say he should go back to Everton, but what if he fails there? Is that not worse for Rooney as a man and as a financial entity?

Would the Premier League be considered the original money grabbing destination? Or were there lads heading to America before that?

A fair few decent players went to the NASL back in the day. Would that be the original? Premier league became one for sure. There's no country in Europe that would pay the money English clubs to to their players top to bottom.

I don't see him staying in the Prem with anyone other than Man United tbh.

I think China have gone about it in a different way to the US though. The MLS was offering big money to a few guys who were at the end of their careers. Something that they've quite quickly slowed down as far as I know. China are offering absolutely insane amounts to really average players now. I'm sure there was some Premier Legaue also ran who went there and ended up being the second highest paid player in the world or something insane. It just doesn't seem like something which can be sustainable.

As for the Premier League being the original money grab, that was contextually slightly different. The English League was already a success, with plenty of history. The Sky deal just piled a shed load of money in to a league that was marketable, which is why the teams were able to outgun almost any other European team financially. I can't imagine the Chinese league is generating all that cash on its own.
