Ok, so I have to quit out right before the final bosses after just beating four bosses in a row and now I'll have to do the whole level again. Bullshit.

God Bloodbornes lore is just so interesting. I just recently picked up on the fact that the hunters are actually doctors kitted out with weaponry to stop the beasts. Elementary doctors are taught that prevention is often the best medicine, so the healing church employed these hunters to prevent the spread of the beast plague.

Also something else I noticed is just how much influence the church had on yharnam. So many statues and cathedrals and religious imagery sprinkled throughout. Hell, even the beasts they burn are also crucified.

There's a really good video series on Youtube documenting the lore. The series really helped me fall further in love with the game. Bloodborne was my first game purchased for the PS4 when it came out, and I'll never regret that.

Right now I'm doing my first play through of DS3. Went from struggling with Aldrich to struggling with the Dancer. That's what I get for saying most of the bosses until this point were too easy.

Bloodborne was the reason I bought a PS4. I'll follow Miyazaki wherever I need to

Vaati? thats who ive been watching in addition to just reading all of the item descriptions. theres some brilliant stuff in there and just some interesting little details. for example, the Choir headgear is designed with an eye covering to pay respect to Master Wilem whos hat also has an eye covering.

Theres also the origin of those fly like creatures at the school. Tuns out theyre students who underwent experimentation after Wilem had the epiphany that humans "are operating on the basest of planes. what we need are more eyes" and instead of viewing it as "eyes in our heads" as insight is described, or metaphorically like enlisting more people with different viewpoints, he instead decides that we physically need more eyes on our heads hence the fly like students.

The lore for the DLC is really incredible. Everything about that game is so thoughtfully put together. It's incredible.

Yeah, it was Vaati's videos. Bloodborne was my first Soulsborne game so I was unaware of checking the descriptions of the items most of the times. The video on Djura is probably my favorite of the bunch. It really made me feel for him, and those in Old Yharnam.

Ya boi is nearing the end of Dark Souls 3. Tonight has been a productive as hell night. It started off with me finishing off Prince Lothric and his brother Lorian. The fight was surprisingly easy for a major part of the story. I think the cutscene was my favorite part as it was insanely creepy. After that, I've gone on to explore the optional areas. Oceiros was an odd one with it holding the nonexistent baby. The fight was quite easy with FUGS + lightning add on. Unintended Graves was a nice throwback to the beginning of the game. Just like the original boss, Champion Gundyr was not much of a challenge.

I'll be moving onto Archdragon Peak tomorrow night.

The only boss I really struggled with in Dark Souls 3 (aside from the Nameless King, of course) was Pontiff Sulyvahn. Was the only one where I had to call in an AI to help me out. I always love talking about the problems other people had with Soulsborne bosses, because since everyone's playstyle/build is different, everyone has problems with different bosses. Makes for really fun discussions.

Dancer probably fucked me up the most in DS3 outside of NK.

Yeah I've heard so many people talk about the Dancer being difficult. I think I beat her on my second try, I didn't have any trouble with that fight. It reminded me a lot of the Darkbeast Paarl fight in Bloodborne, which a lot of people hated but I beat on the first try. And in Bloodborne I had the most trouble with Ebriatus, probably.

I died about 15 times on the Dancer but found most of that game pretty easy, huge difficulty spike for me, ha.

Paarl killed me maybe 25 times before I realised I was facing him stupidly early. Came back to him super late in the game and destroyed him.

Yeah I think maybe a lot of the frustration with Paarl was from people facing him way too early. If you fight him when you return to the area later in the game he isn't difficult. As for the difficulty of Dark Souls 3, I've always been of the opinion that the games feel like they're getting easier for veteran players because we know the tricks and are indoctrinated into the games' playstyle. Newbies would still find Dark Souls 3 punishing, although it is probably the most accessible of the five, other than Bloodborne.

Oh absolutely, I don't think it's easy, it was just easy for me, ha. Bloodborne still fucked me up though, I'd call that the hardest. I had the hardest time with Dark Souls the first time I played it though obviously.

Bloodborne was my introduction into Soulsborne world. I found out very quickly in the first area that the game can be unrelenting and punishing. I took my breaks from being frustrated during my first play through. Every defeated boss felt like a huge accomplishment to me. The second time playing was a different, and much more fun time. I learned to love the fast and aggressive fighting style. I have not changed my play style for DS3.

For me, the trouble with DS3 bosses began with Aldrich. I think my problem was that I was too aggressive during the fight instead of taking my time. I would get Aldrich down to a quart of life left, and would always get caught by him transporting. Also, a big mistake on my part was I didn't know what Undead Bone shards were for. I didn't upgrade my bonfire until after the Dancer. Having better estus would have been a huge help throughout the game. The Dancer gave me so many problems as a pure strength build. I got caught so many times in the twin swords phase. Sadly it was one of the rare times I had to summon another player to help. Thankfully they were a magic build, and it didn't take long to defeat them.

The only time I've ever had to summon someone to beat a Souls boss was the Nameless King, haha. I was furious!

I've never summoned another player. The only summons I've ever used were the AI NPC summons, and even then it was as a last resort. My first full Soulsborne game was Dark Souls 1, and I wound up using my first one during Ornstein and Smough. That's a really tough skill check for a first-timer. I also didn't go back and play Demon's Souls until after Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne.

Question: Do you need to play the first two Dark Souls to fully appreciate and understand what's going on in this one?

To fully appreciate yeah but you can absolutely play this one first and still get a full, fantastic experience. It's a great starting point.

Yeah there are a bunch of references in the third one, especially to the first one, but you don't need to have played the first one. This one did feel a bit easier than the first one, though. If I had to recommend an order to play the series in, it would be: 3, 1, 2, Demon's.

Bloodborne plays so differently from the others that I'd say to play it whenever you want. In terms of difficulty, though, it's between 3 and 1.
