"Cringe worthy" is just such a meaningless phrase. Just say "makes me cringe." Don't try to use a phrase that projects your feelings onto the song like it has some intrinsic "cringe-causing capability."

    I think God's a painter

    i love this record.

yea it's pop music but it's pop music with heart from an artist who seems to be tapped into transcendent love more than at any point in his career. and who doesn't like hooks.

tho sometimes i wonder what would happen if andrew did an isbell-esque storytelling record that was mostly him and the piano in the vein of hammers and strings and birthday song. it'll probably never happen but i like to imagine.

if someone cringes in a forest and no one is around to interpret the cringe was the thing they cringed at truly "cringe-worthy"

This album is really solid. Expectations were way down after hearing Brooklyn, which I still think is terrible, but that's the only song here I didn't like.

In fact, I think this is probably my second favorite album from this year so far.

Not a terrible album, but I'm not a huge fan of it. Only songs I see myself coming back to are Birthday Song, Don't Speak for Me, and Love and Great Buildings.
Wasn't a huge fan of the self titled either, though.

"fire escape" is so good btw, i don't think i realized it when i heard it on its own, but in the context of the record it's the first thing he's written in forever that gives me glass passenger vibes

I think "Dead Man's Dollar" is my favorite off this album. Really love the line.. "I want to make a life, but I want to live there too.."

    all we have is time

Yeah.. first time hearing the "you got that baby sleeping all by yourself" verse in "Dead Man's Dollar" gave me chills. There really are some lyrical gems on this album. If you feel this is a generic sounding pop record that makes you cringe.. do yourself a favor and listen harder. There's plenty of the same substance that has been there his entire career.

This is good, but probably his weakest release he's done outside of the solo EP. Love Synesthesia though. My favorite track is probably Dead Mans Dollar

I think it's so funny how split everyone is on this record. Everyone either hates it or loves it :crylaugh:

I'm definitely enjoying this. Think it flows really well from start to finish. I was a little concerned when I heard the first few tracks individually but think they fit really well as a whole artistic piece.

Favorites so far are "So Close", "Fire Escape", "Dead Man's Dollar" and "Walking In My Sleep". Each listen I'm enjoying this more and more. Well done Andrew

This was cool. Brooklyn was... weird, but everything else was really enjoyable. Birthday Song is immense.

"Brooklyn" reminds me of early Mat Kearney. I think that's why I enjoy it.

I actually don't hate island radio as much as everyone else seems to... not my favorite, but an enjoyable, light track between some of the more personal, "heavier" tracks.
