He's referring to the demo version from On The Possible Past but it is referencing Alk3

Casey is 100% a love song. It's sang like a love song, it's playful like a love song, it's about having a life together with your soul mate. I think there'd be a much different feel if it was about a male roommate...but, that's why I love their lyrics so much because they can mean so much to so many people.

Yeah, does it make you nervous? Have you fulfilled your purpose? Yeah, does it make you nervous? House is on fire.

    Such a good singalong part.

There' not a weak song on the entire album. I've had it playing for most of every day since its release and have a new favorite song just about every day. I've always liked the Menzingers, but the lyrical relatability on this release catapulted them to like a top 3 band all time for me...I'm like a week behind on all my podcasts cause it's all I want to listen to!

My god I hope Mexican Guitars stays on the set list but it'll prob get dropped for Midwestern States. Also i find it strange to put Tellin Lies in the middle of the set and Lookers to open.

Knew you'd be stoked about that haha I would assume they add Midwestern States, I was also hoping for Charlie's Army but I doubt we'll get that.

Also I'm all for Swapping Tellin' Lies and Lookers

I get why they decided to open with Lookers, but I agree with those saying to swap it with Tellin' Lies for sure.

I first listened to this the other day and was rolling my eyes at the whole "We're not young anymore" thing but I guess I was just in a crochety mood because I listened again today and was nodding my head at the whole "We're not young anymore" thing

I am listening to this right now and I guess I clean spaced out because suddenly I was listening to Lookers. But anyways I'm on Boy Blue still a top track imo. Still really like this album. Also feel like lyrically this might be Greg's least strong set of songs as a whole. Or maybe not least strong and just subtly changed as to make a big difference in my consumption. Where previously the narrative flowed super cleanly, with the chorus feeling like a logical extension of the verses, I feel like this time around that approach has been inverted in that a lot of the songs revolve around the chorus -- which makes sense with what they said about writing a jukebox album -- and leaves the verses a little weaker as a result. The best songs lyrically I feel stay closer to the old album style of verses prioritized, even if they've got huge choruses (your wild years, Midwestern states, Lookers, are a few off the top of my head). This could be untrue, and I could change my mind with more time.

I agree with a lot of this but I also think this kind of started to manifest itself on Rented World.

I dunno I think this is their best lyrical album by far or at least the one that resonates most with me. Even being thematically not really something I can relate to, I think they communicate the ideas extremely well.

Yeah I mean I don't think the lyrics took a hit necessarily I just think they have been trying to appeal to a broader audience, without really sacrificing any of their musical or creative integrity like, say, The Wonder Years.

Some of the writing in Black Mass and Livin' Ain't Easy is pretty rough, but I don't have gripes with much else. Agree that it's Greg's weakest record lyrically, but I think it's his best in terms of vocals and melodies.
