68 years old this isn't real punk like the Sex Pistols but it's still pretty good

side note I actually used to listen to smash mouth on a regular basis because I loved ska punk and their first album was ska punk

none of my friends have ever let it go and think I'm an all star junkie who's failing smash mouth rehab

pre-2011 was a bad time for my music tastes

Ska punk is fine, but other than their cover of "Why Can't We Be Friends" made famous in Basketball, I'm not sure that's the band to go with in the genre. I used to loathe Walkin' On the Sun back in the day.

This album is so good I'm confident in calling it a top-5 album for the year in February. They absolutely nailed it with this album... perfect mix of their edgier sound and very well rounded out songs.

Agreed. In the pod Jason and Thomas discuss whether The Menzingers will get bigger (and decide that no they probably won't, at least not because of this album). I noticed the singles from Rented World had a lot of views on Youtube, way more than I'd have expected. Wonder if that was their big chance, on the back of OTIP, but the record just wasn't well enough received to push them into that next stratosphere.

I feel like this album is way accessible across the board than rented world

I think part of it with RW was that the band and label didn't make their big push off that record. They sort of took the long view and kept trying to slowly grow things. The biggest tour I remember for that cycle was opening for letlive and TBS. Their kickoff headliner was still in small cap rooms with PUP and Cayetana opening for Lemuria and the Menzingers. This album is already getting a bigger initial push and the headline tour is in bigger rooms. They got to open for Weezer, the Times and RS are covering it, and Mark Hoppus is at least aware of them. I'll be interested in seeing what's next for them.

Just saw Greg and Tom play an acoustic set in a tiny record store in Melbourne. Was awesome. Met the whole band, and they signed my poster, and liked my Burn After Writing tattoo.

From ATP, they played Bad Catholics, Midwestern States, The Bars and Lookers.

Seeing them at a headline show tomorrow night. I'll report back the setlist. Keen to see what they throw in.
