I was under the assumption that those Audio-Technica's were decent tables? I know a few people that regular this site that have the AT-LP120 and they seem to really enjoy it.

 

I initially bought an LP60, but within a week returned it and got a UTurn Orbit. The LP60 would not stay at a consistent, accurate speed

 

You can definitely build a setup with that budget. I'd suggest going to R/budgetaudiophile for some recommendations. If the turntable is your main input source, I'd go with the best one you can within your budget and upgrade the rest when you have the means.

 

About half the people I’ve talked to have some kind of issue like you’re describing. The other half like myself haven’t had any problems. It’s unfortunate that quality on the LP60 is such a mixed bag, but it’s cheap, so you get what you pay for in some sense. What do you think of the UTurn?

I've done research on turntables fairly extensively and have been led to believe that the one I linked and a couple of Sony ones are pretty good turntables. Can I ask what your concern would be with the one I linked specifically? I don't see how one like that would damage a record.

 

Yeah, the issue was there's a small, super sensitive screw on the bottom of the table (ie. a pain in the ass to get to and easily test) that changes speed. Home Like Noplace is There was my test record for speed, haha.

I love the UTurn (also biased because they started at my school). My only worry is the lack of speed adjustment; I'd assume the motor setup has a super long life, but if it starts to wear out and slow down, it probably needs to get sent in to fix. Which, being a super small company, that could be a problem if they go under or get bought out

 

used bin score again tonight, Narrow Stairs & King of Why's for $25 total.

 

I tortured myself today by going into an electronics store that specialised in audio and home entertainment systems and checking out some new amps and floor standing speakers when I know I haven't got any money till my bonus in April.

Yes, it is definitely out of print now. I do wonder if Hopeless would consider doing another boxset style vinyl release eventually though.

if a record is popping on first listen, is this something a brush should take care of? recommendations, or should something cheap off amazon do? sorry this has probably been asked 47 times.

 

Has anyone used the VYNL subscription? They were doing a special, $20 for the first month. Might cancel if my three records aren't great but $40 for three records a month is pretty good anyway.

 

I've only seen Facebook ads for it, but some more questions: does anyone know how they choose/curate? Is it a person or computer? And do they chose from literally every record, only new ones, or do they have partnerships with certain labels?

 

Not sure able the label thing. In videos I've seen people opening stuff like the first Arctic Monkeys album. But it could be a new pressing.

They claim its a real person. I linked them to my Spotify, last.fm account, and Discogs account. They also asked about genre preferences and albums I really want/am looking for.

If I have an AT-LP120 and a friend is giving me an Orotofon 2M read. There should be no issue with my tone arm accepting it will there?
