I do really like this album a lot, and have been liking it more and more the longer I've had it, but I still really prefer their older stuff. Especially The Perfect Cast EP. I just prefer the sound they were going for on their other releases and think they do a much better job in that style.

I say that, but then Holy Ghost is my most listened to album on Last.fm the past month so what do I know.

the best thing about it is being able to directly repost comments by important voices on your own timeline, which I think was very important about this whole thing

Interesting. It's important that he's bringing this issue up, but it certainly does not excuse it - which he seems to be aware of

Finally gotten around to giving this album a proper spin and boy am I glad I did. Each listen it gets better and better.

Anyone seen these guys live? They are coming close to me here in Europe and would be interested in seeing them if they put on a good show

Might be a minority opinion, but I think they are kind of hit or miss live. I've seen them...4 times now? Might be forgetting one, but only once did they seem like they were having fun IMO (the tour with Pup, Jeff Rosenstock and Tiny Moving Parts). Specifically on the most recent tour with Brand New, I was kind of bored during their set. Which was a bummer, because I was really looking forward to hearing Holy Ghost songs live.

Idk, I just think you have to catch them at the right time or when they're in the right mood or with the right crowd or something.

  12. I've seen them probably 10+ times since 2013 and they're consistently one of my favorite live bands. Even when they were touring You're Gonna Miss It All, which I pretty much disliked, I always went out of my way to go to their shows.

I saw them for the first time back when hotelier opened for them in 2014 and they were bad, of course they were missing their frontman but haha. Just generally boring the few times I've seen them at this point but I'm also not into the music much. Better at the TWY discog show

Yeah haha, that hotelier tour was my first time seeing them and I remember it being pretty bad but not having Brendan I gave them a pass. Other time was a random one off show at Brooklyn Night Bazaar with Beach Slang and Chumped opening. Pretty great lineup, but I remember mobo being the worst of the bunch.

well chumped is incredible (still sad) and beach slang is really fun live even if the music isn't that good anymore so that's a pretty high bar, hah

I like that song more than most of Holy Ghost, which I liked a lot.

I agree. I prefer them when they sound more like this. Holy Ghost was very good, but it was missing something. Idk a lot of songs lacked the charm that sports or YGMIA had. I really want a full LP in the vein of this and the Perfect Cast stuff. But honestly I'd probably enjoy a Mobo metal album if they made one. As long as they're making music I'll be listening.

Perfect Cast is 100% where I wanted them to go with Holy Ghost, but I still enjoy a lot of the album. That said, Perfect Cast and YGMIA are both perfect, this is just quite good.

I think we will get what we are looking for. Especially since a lot of Jakes songs on Holy Ghost did have things that reminded me of Perfect Cast. And some of Brendon's, but with his health situation the way it was around the time they were recording I think that it took his songs in a bit of a different direction. I think on the next one they will have more time and will shift back into the sound/energy they had on releases prior to Holy Ghost. At least that's what I draw from the way this song sounds. I could be completely wrong in all of this lol.

  23. Perfect Cast is the second best Modern Baseball release but it's sorely lacking Jake songs. That being said, Thrash Particle and Alpha Kappa are 2 of their best songs.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I've always preferred Brendan's output more, which is probably why I really like Holy Ghost

Thrash Particle and Revenge of the Nameless Ranger are my favourites on that release. The end of Revenge... is fantastic.
