I'm hoping they end up touring the US together in the Fall. Even if they're both supporting someone

 

Scanning through that screenplay, and I never imagined "Casey" as a romantic/love song, I read it as a song about male bonding/friendship, but in the screenplay it's interpreted a different way, which is genuinely quite interesting, as I honestly never took that song that way one bit...

I guess because I've never met a girl named Casey before.

Yup! Honestly didn't read anything romantic/sexual/whatever into the song, I thought it was a song about friendship, not romance.

Just a song about hanging out with his mate one summer while they did some menial summer jobs.

 

I assumed Casey was the waitress from gates

 

I always thought the song Casey was a pretty straight forward song about a past romance. One of the first lines about how Casey wears her hair seemed to give that away to me. Not to mention any time I see a line about "thinking about you" I tend to go into romance/love mode.

 

Blows my mind someone could listen to Casey as anything but romance haha

I spoke to a friend about this, he read the song the same way as me!

On the topic of song meanings, here is a cool nugget from the song Burn After Writing. Tom dropped it in an AMA a few years ago.

"The "cutting hair" part refers to making a drastic change in someone (even though I'm bald haha),Its also a reference to the song "Sansom" by Regina Spektor which is a take on the biblical story of Sansom, the "red ink" refers to editing a piece of literature or grading a paper and is a throwback to the first verse which is a stretched out analogy using writing as the metaphor. The "Hands" part refers to the person who the song is about. She once told me that she read you can tell a lot about a person's character by looking at their hands, callouses, mannerisms with their hands, etc."

 

The first time I ever heard that song, I kind of thought that too. Granted, I only really picked up the lyrics on the chorus. Wasn't listening too intently and needless to say that didn't last long.

Edit: Also from pics on their Euro tour with Billy Talent and the current one in Australia, it looks like Dave isn't in the band anymore. Their change in social media pics confirms this too: just Luke and Kyle, yet Dave is still listed on their FB. You know anything about this?

Jeff Rosenstock is one of my all time favorites but I would definitely take Flats/Nil over the US tour.

 

These guys finally clicked a few months back. Am I crazy to like Rented Worlds over On The Impossible Past? Seems like OTIP is the fan favorite.

 

nah, never crazy to have a preference/opinion and Rented World is a really strong album even if it's not my favorite in their discog

 

Seeing them in two weeks today. New song's a jam, OTIP is one of my all-time favourite albums.

Big love for this band. Can't wait for the album.

 

Have there been any hints as to what's going to wind up on that covers EP they're releasing as part of the VIP ticket package? I know it's four songs with one picked by each band member... Just wondering if they said anything about the song selection at any of the recent shows?

Asking because I noticed "Waiting" by Green Day was on one of the acoustic set lists and if there were a full band cover of that from them it would make me obnoxiously happy.

 

I hope one is a Saves The Day cover. I know two of the guys (I want to say Greg and Joe) used to play in a STD cover band

 

Waiting is the most underrated Green Day song. Would love to hear a menz cover
